Job Summary

An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, conscientious and dedicated Electrician to join an Estates Maintenance Team responsible for the installation, maintenance and repair of electrical equipment at properties owned and maintained by Cheshire & Wirral Partnership NHS Trust. The role requires the post holder to act as a Competent Person (CP) as defined within Health Technical Memorandum 06-02.

As part of the role, the post holder will need to be flexible and operate as part of a diverse maintenance team while having a broad knowledge of electrical systems (including LV distribution, technical drawings, problem solving, testing and inspection).

The role also requires participation in the on-call rota.

Shortlisting for this vacancy is due to be completed on 19/11/2025 with proposed interview dates of 01/12/2025 and 03/12/2025.


Main Duties

All applicants must have access to transport for work purposes as travel is essential around the various properties the Trust is responsible for. They must also be able to use their own initiative to problem‑solve issues presented in a safe manner to ensure continuous operation and stakeholder assurance.

Successful applicants must have completed a recognised Electrical apprenticeship and hold a City & Guilds Level 3 Advanced Technical Craft Certificate or equivalent qualification (NVQ 3, BTEC National Certificate/Diploma, ONC/OND). They must possess a high level of competence.

The salary for this role is at Agenda for Change band 4, with an additional payment (RRP) of £6,040.95 per annum. On‑call is paid at £21.92 per occasion with a minimum of 1.5 hours pay per call‑out; all other on‑call time is paid at time and a half, including travel time. Enhanced bank holiday pay is provided for on‑call and time back in lieu.

Person Specification


Essential Qualifications

* Completed a recognised apprenticeship and able to produce evidence.
* City & Guilds craft certificate NVQ3 or equivalent.


Desirable Qualifications

* BS7671:2018 18th Edition Wiring Regulations.
* C&G 2391 Inspection and Test Qualification.
* Health & Safety qualification.


Essential Knowledge and Expertise

* Fully conversant with 18th Edition wiring regulations.
* Demonstrated experience working on complex systems in a healthcare environment.
* Multi‑skilled approach, willingness to learn new techniques.
* Competent to undertake work on the types of systems and plant for which the appointment is sought.
* Able to install new systems from drawings and specifications in compliance with all legalisation.


Desirable Knowledge and Expertise

* Maintenance of standby generators, fire alarm systems, emergency lighting systems and nurse call systems.
* Producing Electrical Installation, EICRs & Minor Works Certificates.


Essential Experience

* Experience of maintaining and operating building services including low voltage single & three phase, mechanical plant and equipment, air handling control systems, fire alarm, security alarms and emergency lighting systems.


Desirable Experience

* Significant post‑apprenticeship experience.
* Experience working in a healthcare environment.
