Contract Type:
Fixed term until November 2026

About this opportunity
Westmorland and Furness Council and Cumberland Council have given consent to the Government's devolution proposals. Cumbria Combined Authority (CCA) will be established in early 2026, operating for a year without a Mayor, before Cumbria's first Mayoral election in May 2027.
The new Mayoral Combined Authority (MCA) will include representatives from both councils and the Mayor, taking on powers and responsibilities around strategic planning, economic development, transport, housing, skills, climate and environment, and public sector reform.
The MCA will be an entirely new organisation, working closely with the two constituent authorities to deliver its agenda. The post holder will be employed by Westmorland and Furness Council, working in collaboration with Cumberland Council.
This is an exciting opportunity to be part of establishing a brand-new organisation and to play a key role in shaping how the MCA operates from the ground up. You will deliver effective, efficient, and customer-focused support across all aspects of project and programme management and administration.
Working closely with colleagues across the organisation, you will help develop and deliver project and programme objectives through planning, coordination, progress monitoring, and practical support. You will also take responsibility for organising meetings and workshops, ensuring excellent administration, timely planning, and effective coordination with participants to support successful delivery.
Who we are looking for…
We're looking for a highly organised and proactive individual with a passion for supporting complex programmes and projects in a dynamic environment. You will have experience of providing professional project or programme support within a large or multi-stakeholder organisation, ideally in the public sector.
You'll bring strong organisational and time management skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively. With excellent communication and interpersonal skills, you'll build productive relationships with colleagues, managers, partners, and elected members, ensuring the smooth coordination of activities and information.
You'll also be confident using Microsoft Office applications (including Teams, SharePoint, Excel, Word and PowerPoint) and comfortable working with data, documentation, and reporting tools. Above all, you'll be customer-focused, collaborative, and committed to supporting the successful delivery of outcomes that make a difference across Cumbria.
