If you’re an experienced CAD Design Engineer with strong steelwork knowledge and you enjoy producing accurate fabrication drawings that go straight into manufacture and site installation, this CAD Design Engineer role could be a great fit.
This CAD Design Engineer position sits within a busy design team, supporting projects from initial drawing work through to fabrication and installation details. You’ll be producing detailed drawings, liaising with internal teams and external stakeholders, and attending project meetings as required. Full training will be provided on internal standards and ways of working, but an industry background in steelwork is paramount for this CAD Design Engineer role.
The CAD Design Engineer role
As a CAD Design Engineer, you’ll produce detailed drawings for fabricated steelwork products, ensure documentation is workshop/site-ready, and support the wider project lifecycle through coordination and communication.
Day-to-day responsibilities of a CAD Design Engineer
Produce detailed CAD Design Engineer drawings for products including staircases, steelwork, balconies and balustrading, to meet approval requirements
Produce fabrication schedules, cutting lists and installation details suitable for workshop and site use
Be cost-conscious in relation to contract works, estimate, programme, method of manufacture and installation
Highlight and advise on any drawing or scope changes that may incur extra costs/charges
Correspond with clients, engineers and architects to support approvals and technical queries
Attend meetings with clients, contractors and suppliers, presenting work in a professional manner
Report to the Managing Directors and work closely with estimating, ordering and production teams
Carry out site visits and support the quotation process when required
What they’re looking for - CAD Design Engineer
Experience as a CAD Design Engineer using AutoCAD / Advanced Steel or similar software
Strong, practical steelwork knowledge (essential)
High attention to detail and pride in accurate, buildable drawing output
Organised approach with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
Strong communication skills with internal teams and external stakeholders
