We are recruiting for a IV Access CNS Trainee who shares our vision to be trusted to provide consistently outstanding care and exemplary service to our patients.
As a trainee IV access clinical nurse specialist (CNS) the post holder will develop specialist knowledge and skills in the placement, care and management of patients requiring vascular access and in the diagnosis and management of IV access related complications.
The CNS will work alongside the IV Access nurse consultant and band 7 CNS in the placement of peripherally inserted central catheters (PICCs) as part of the vascular access team within the Cancer Division.
The role will also involve coordinating the insertion of central vascular access devices, the appropriate placement of peripheral venous catheters (PVCs), the placement and removal of peripherally inserted catheters.
The education and support of all healthcare providers in the management and care of these devices forms an integral part of this role, alongside practice development.
Working as part of the IV access team, you will develop skills to promote best practice and to monitor and improve standards of care in IV access.
The post holder will contribute to clinical governance and the implementation of relevant research into practice thus aiding service development.
In addition, you will receive a High-Cost Area Supplement of 15% of your basic salary, subject to a minimum payment of £4,552 and a maximum payment of £5,735 per annum pro rata.

Main duties of the job
The IV Access CNS Trainee will develop skills in the placement of peripherally inserted central catheters (PICCs).
Develop the competence to practice autonomously within the IV team and deliver and participate in the clinical care of patients with vascular access devices (VADs) attending the Cancer Centre.
Develop skills to provide a level of advanced and comprehensive nursing assessment based on a specialist body of knowledge.
The post holder will develop skills to appropriately assess, examine, investigate, diagnose and treat patients, resulting in the safe management and appropriate referral or discharge of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed presentations related to VADs.

Qualifications / Training
Essential criteria
* RN Level 1
* Registered specialist qualification in chemotherapy (SACT)
Desirable criteria
* Registered specialist qualification in cancer care
Previous Experience
Essential criteria
* Experienced in peripheral venous cannulation
* Significant experience of working at Band 6 in an IV related field
Desirable criteria
* Evidence of self-management and motivational skills
Skills
Essential criteria
* Working knowledge of Microsoft Office with intermediate keyboard skills and MS Excel
* Good communication skills
Knowledge

* Must have an understanding of the background to and aims of the Good practice recommendations and Vessel Health and Preservation
* Knowledge and experience in the care and maintenance of various types of CVADs
