Applications are invited for the post of Principal Scrutiny Officer, in the Democratic Services Team of the Governance and Legal Services Directorate based in County Hall, Atlantic Wharf, Cardiff.
The service now operates a hybrid working model which enables employees to work flexibly from home or from an office base, depending upon service requirements.
About the job
Cardiff Council is looking for a talented individual to join its highly regarded scrutiny team, where you will be investigating some of the key challenges facing the City and examining the Council’s policies to address them.
The role of the Principal Scrutiny Officer involves the provision of effective support to the Council’s Scrutiny process through the undertaking of in-depth enquires and investigations into strategic policy and service delivery issues. On a day-to-day basis, you will be liaising with Members and Officers, gathering and analysing evidence from a range of sources, developing and maintaining relationships with stakeholders, and formulating credible recommendations.

The successful applicant will be able to undertake research and will have experience of analysing and interpreting complex information, performance planning and objective setting. Their verbal and written skills experience will enable them to communicate information in a way that can be easily understood by others. They must be able to prioritise work and meet deadlines, often under pressure, whilst maintaining good relationships with others. They will be able to demonstrate their commitment to their own professional development and to those they work with.
