We are seeking a motivated and compassionate Haematology Specialist Nurse (Band 6) to join our dynamic team. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced registered nurse with a passion for cancer care to provide specialist support to patients diagnosed with Chronic Myeloid Leukemia and Chronic Lymphocytic Leukaemia.

You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams including Haematology consultants, clinical nurse specialists and allied health professionals to deliver high-quality, patient-centred care across the cancer pathway.


Main duties of the job

Key Responsibilities

* Act as a key worker for patients with Haematology disorders
* Provide specialist clinical advice, support, and education to patients and their families
* Coordinate care across diagnostic, treatment, and follow-up pathways
* Participate in multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings
* Deliver nurse-led SACT clinics
* Support patients in treatment decision-making and symptom management
* Contribute to service development, audit, and quality improvement initiatives
* Maintain accurate clinical documentation and data collection in line with Trust and national standards

You will provide clinical leadership and expertise in all aspects of haematological nursing. You will provide information, support, advice and specialist knowledge to patients, their families and carers. You will act as a resource to the multi-professional team. You will also participate in the co-ordination of patient care to ensure continuity throughout the patient's care pathway.

Job responsibilities

* To assess, plan, deliver and evaluate care for patients with haematological disorders in order to ensure that high standards of evidence-based care are provided.
* To provide information, support, advice and specialist knowledge to patients, their families and carers at all stages of the patients care pathway. This may be verbal and/or written.
* To act as a point of contact for patients, their families and carers, by attending outpatient clinics, the day unit and inpatient wards where necessary, and by other means of communication e.g. telephone and email.
* To act as the patients advocate, especially when discussing treatment options and possible involvement in clinical trials, so that patients can make an informed choice.
* To liaise closely with all members of the multi-professional team, including medical staff, ward Nurses and other Nurse Specialists, to ensure continuity of patient care.
* To establish and maintain effective communication with patients, their families and carers, and all members of the multi-professional team including those from primary care and other outside agencies.
* To participate in and develop Nurse-led clinics.
* To contribute to the education and training of the multi-professional team in all aspects of haematological nursing.
* Provide clinical leadership, support and line management for the junior Haematology Nurse Specialist.
* To be proficient in cannulation and venepuncture, administration of intravenous medication and the administration of cytotoxic chemotherapy.
* To provide education, advice and clinical support to all members of the multi-disciplinary team in the care of patients who require intravenous access, intravenous medication, oral or parenteral cytotoxic chemotherapy, and patients with central lines.

Qualifications

* Registered Nurse on the appropriate part of the NMC register


Experience

* Extensive post-registration experience with at least significant experience at Band 5 or above
* Significant previous Haemato-oncology experience


Skills

* Competent in intravenous medication and chemotherapy administration
* Cannulation and venesection/venepuncture skills
* Some previous experience in clinical procedures e.g. bone marrow aspiration/aphresis
* Effective role model, demonstrating NNUH's PRIDE values of People focussed, Respect, Integrity, Dedication and Excellence
* Demonstrates understanding and commitment to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion
