Job Summary

Radiology Assistant working within the ultrasound departments at University Hospital Coventry, Hospital of St Cross and City of Coventry Health Centre. Providing support to patients and clinical staff.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, reliable and highly motivated individual to join our dedicated team at our University Hospitals Coventry & Warwickshire, Coventry City Centre & Rugby St Cross sites, as a Band 2 Assistant.


Shift Pattern

Shift pattern over a 7-day week (Sun-Sat).


Responsibilities

* You will be part of a large clinical team, on numerous sites, providing support to a variety of staff groups including Consultants, Nurses, and Sonographers within the General Ultrasound Department. Duties involve assisting with patient care before, during, and after imaging examinations, coordinating the movement of inpatients with porters, cleaning of scan rooms, and stock control.
* It is essential the successful candidate enjoys working with people and has a genuine interest in patient care. You must have excellent communication skills, work well as part of a team, but also have the ability to use your initiative and work individually.
* To observe and care for patients whilst waiting for examinations and communicate any concerns to trained staff as appropriate.
* To check patient identification and documentation in accordance with departmental protocols and clinical requests.
* To assist Radiologists, sonographers, registrars, and nurses in performing examinations, attending to patients’ welfare at all times.
* Support service delivery to co-ordinate workflow and support facilities within specialised areas.
* Maintain a clean, safe environment ensuring adherence to Trust standards of cleanliness, hygiene and infection control at all times. Clean and perform routine operational maintenance on equipment as required, participating in the departmental Quality Assurance programme.
* To be familiar with, understand and apply the principles of radiation safety, both nationally and locally regulated or protocol-led.
* To participate in the "Out of Hours" rosters, in line with the departmental agreement to support full 7-day service delivery as part of contracted hours.
* To facilitate communication between the department and all service users, patients, relatives, staff, and external users, including any adherence to Trust policies, and participation in annual appraisal/review systems.
* Communicate with patients and professional colleagues in situations that may be traumatic due to pressures of work or where the patient's condition may be a barrier to comprehension and compliance, e.g. claustrophobia, learning difficulties, or injury traumatised.
* To assist with the practical experience of newly inducted staff.
* Ensure in-house stock movement, especially specialist room stocks, and linen handling according to infection control standards.
* To provide support within the ultrasound department across multiple sites, including University Hospital Coventry, Rugby St Cross, and the City of Coventry Health Centre.
* To assist in the implementation of all manual and electronic information systems ensuring consistently accurate data collection and recording, in support of standard data collection, performance activity, audit, and capacity and demand analysis.
