About the Role
Shotts Abattoir, operated by James Chapman Butchers Ltd, is one of Scotland's key independent red meat facilities, providing essential private kill services to farmers and crofters across the country. We are now seeking a dynamic and organised Private Kill Services Coordinator to lead engagement with producers, develop collaborative livestock supply models, and help promote and grow our private kill service.
This is an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the sustainability of Scotland's local food systems and rural economy.
Key Responsibilities

• Build relationships with existing and new farmer clients.
·
• Organise and support the formation of local producer groups for collaborative livestock deliveries.
·
• Survey and assess producer needs, logistics challenges, and service priorities.
·
• Plan and manage livestock intake schedules to align with grouped kill days.
·
• Coordinate return logistics for meat products, including development of collection hubs.
·
• Liaise with abattoir management and admin staff to ensure smooth scheduling and communication.
·
• Raise awareness of the Shotts private kill service through marketing materials, social media, and attendance at relevant events and meetings.

• Develop and maintain a producer database and regular newsletter or update channel.
·
• Identify and implement improvements to service delivery and operational efficiency.
·
• Support long-term planning and succession strategy by feeding back insights and recommendations to senior management.
Person Specification
Essential:
·
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills
·
• Understanding of the red meat sector and agricultural producer needs
·
• Organised, self-motivated, and capable of managing multiple workstreams
·
• Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel
Desirable:
·
• Experience in livestock marketing, rural development, or agri-business coordination
·
• Knowledge of abattoir operations or meat logistics
·
• Familiarity with collaborative or cooperative working models
