Hampshire and IOW Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust and Southampton City Council are working in partnership to develop and deliver a New Family Safeguarding service supporting families across Southampton.
We are seeking an experienced Mental Health Nurse, Social Worker, or Occupational Therapist with a special interest in safeguarding to be part of this new and evolving service. This integrated model has demonstrated excellent outcomes for children and families nationwide.
The Family Safeguarding team adopts a multidisciplinary approach, including Children and Families Social Workers, Family Support Practitioners, and Adult Mental Health Specialist Workers, to address issues such as parental domestic abuse, substance use, and mental health concerns.
Applicants must have relevant mental health experience and be skilled in delivering both group and individual psychologically informed interventions. A formal qualification in CBT or DBT is advantageous. The practitioner will manage a caseload, collaborate with multi-agency partners supporting families, and be confident in assessing and formulating care and treatment plans. Delivery of evidence-based interventions to adults with complex mental health needs is essential.
Participation in multi-agency case reviews and the ability to formulate collaborative risk and safety plans are critical. The role requires proficiency in motivational interviewing and solution-focused approaches. Knowledge of the Care Act, Mental Health law, and Safeguarding procedures is vital, as these will underpin daily practice.
