About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic lead to provide senior professional leadership for the health contribution to Multi Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH) across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. This is a pivotal senior safeguarding role, responsible for leading and coordinating timely, proportionate and high quality health input into multiagency safeguarding decision making. The postholder will work within co‑located multiagency environments, providing expert clinical oversight, professional challenge and strategic influence, to safeguard children effectively. The health lead for MASH will also contribute to the wider strategic safeguarding agenda, supporting strong multiagency arrangements and continuous service improvement.


Key Responsibilities

* Provide visible safeguarding leadership for the health contribution within MASH across Hampshire and Isle of Wight.
* Drive improvement and influence change within complex multiagency systems, ensuring high quality, timely health input supports effective, child‑centred decision making.
* Work closely with partners across the four local authorities (Children’s Social Care, Police, Education and Early Help) to strengthen multiagency collaboration, promote consistent thresholds and model confident professional challenge.
* Support the development of effective MASH processes, improving information sharing, risk analysis and decision making across the system.
* Provide expert safeguarding advice on complex cases, supporting staff to understand risk, vulnerability and cumulative harm, and ensuring appropriate escalation and outcomes.
* Lead quality improvement through audit, performance monitoring and embedding learning from reviews.
* Contribute to workforce development through training and guidance and support the development of policies and practice aligned to local and national safeguarding priorities.


Required Qualifications and Experience

* Registered Nurse or Midwife with experience of working with children and young people.
* First degree, master’s degree or equivalent (or working towards a level 7 module).
* Evidence of ongoing CPD in safeguarding children.
* Competent specialist safeguarding nurse with recent and extensive experience of working within a safeguarding team.
* Experience of working in a MASH or similar high‑risk decision‑making environment.
* Experience of leading safeguarding workstreams with measurable outcomes.
* Managing safeguarding practitioners/teams using a compassionate leadership style.
* Experience of managing performance using relevant HR processes.
* Experience working as a safeguarding lead at partnership or systemwide level.
* Experience delivering supervision within a team context.
* In‑depth knowledge of national/local safeguarding legislation, policy and guidance.
* Knowledge of patterns of abuse, neglect, cumulative harm and contextual safeguarding.
* Knowledge of multiagency safeguarding systems such as MASH.
* In‑depth post‑registration experience.
* Knowledge of audit methodology including planning, data collection, analysis, reporting and evaluating impact.
* Ability to interpret and use safeguarding data to drive improvement.
* Experience developing and implementing safeguarding policies.
* Working knowledge of budget/resource management to support service delivery.
* Knowledge of supervision models and experience delivering safeguarding supervision.
* Ability to act as a resilient safeguarding professional using a strength‑based approach.
* Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
* Strong IT skills (email, Word; ideally Excel/PowerPoint).
* Confidence in delivering presentations and managing challenging discussions.
* Ability to communicate and influence across organisational boundaries.
* Ability to prioritise, work flexibly, and meet tight deadlines.
* Experienced in the leadership and completion of audits, reports, and risk summaries.
* Ability to coach, support and develop practitioners using compassionate leadership.
* Professional qualities: resilient, flexible, confident, adaptable, approachable, facilitative, non‑judgemental, self‑motivated, credible, decisive, and committed to high professional standards.
* Car driver with access to a vehicle and willingness to travel across the HIOW area regularly.


Desirable

* SCPHN (SN/HV) or RSCN.
* Teaching & assessment qualification.
* Safeguarding Children specialist qualification.
* Leadership and management training.
* Joint Agency Response training and leadership experience.
* Clinical team manager experience.
* IT skills including PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook.
