Band 7 Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist - Acute Medicine

Permanent | 22.5 hours per week


Overview

Join a forward-thinking Acute Medicine Therapy Team that prioritises patient care and professional development. We are looking for a positive, proactive clinician with leadership and specialist skills in Acute Medicine to help build a strong future for therapy. You will manage your own clinical caseload, providing advanced specialist assessments and interventions to a wide range of medical patients including palliative care, neurology, bariatric, dementia, frailty and multi-pathological conditions. You will support and train team members and students, and assist in their development. You will contribute to service development and ensure practice aligns with national guidelines and evidence-based practice relevant to Acute Medicine. We work closely with the wider multidisciplinary team to achieve the best outcomes for our patients.

We are an integrated department of occupational therapists, physiotherapists, dietitians and assistants with strong relationships across the wider multidisciplinary team and community colleagues. Core hours are 8.00am-4.00pm with flexible options, and you will also work as part of a seven-day roster.


Responsibilities

* Manage a complex caseload and support/train team members to manage their own caseloads.
* Use advanced, effective assessment skills to identify appropriate patients and formulate, implement and evaluate individualised treatment and rehabilitation plans.
* Communicate effectively to support a multidisciplinary approach and positive dialogue with the team and wider colleagues.
* Lead non-clinical duties such as chairing team meetings, developing in-service training ideas, supervising students and therapy staff, and contributing to appraisal documentation.
* Measure and evaluate practice through evidence-based projects, audits and outcome measures, and make recommendations for change.
* Contribute to staffing considerations, absence management and wellbeing of staff within the team in the absence of a Team Leader.


Qualifications and skills

* Advanced specialist clinical skills in Acute Medicine and ability to provide leadership within the therapy team.
* Strong prioritisation, organisational and time-management abilities.
* Advanced communication skills for effective multidisciplinary collaboration.
* Experience in education and supervision of students, therapy assistants and junior staff.
* Commitment to evidence-based practice, audit, and service development.


About the team and setting

The James Paget is a vibrant university hospital providing care to residents of east Norfolk and north Suffolk, situated on the coast near beautiful beaches and the Broads National Park. The Integrated Therapy Department works closely with the Research Department and represents the Trust at CSP, RCOT, BOA and BGS conferences. Personal and professional development is supported through structured supervision, appraisal, and CPD funding, with opportunities to teach and supervise across partners such as the University of East Anglia, Suffolk College and City College Norwich. Onsite parking/car shares are available.
