The Bath, Swindon and Wiltshire (BSW) Bowel Screening Programme is seeking a Screening Practitioner (SP) to join our team at Royal United Hospital Bath.
The bowel screening service addresses the needs of individuals aged between 50 and 75 who have an abnormal test result from a home screening kit.
Applicants must be a registered general nurse with appropriate knowledge and experience. Specific training will be provided. The service delivers screening services from three hospitals – RUH, GWH and SFT. Some travel between sites will be required; work patterns are primarily normal working hours. Bank holiday working is not required.
Main duties of the job
SPs are expected to support the SSPs within the bowel screening service with the day‑to‑day running of the service, caring for participants with an abnormal FIT test result and within the BCSP surveillance programmes. As a registered, accountable, and autonomous nurse you are to always act in the best interests of your patients and take personal responsibility for your actions and decisions.
Person Specification
* First level registered nurse with a Diploma, Advanced Diploma or Degree in Nursing and evidence of continuing professional development to post-graduate diploma level.
* Excellent written, verbal communication and interpersonal skills; evidence of caring and compassionate approach to complex patient needs, strong organisational and time management skills, self‑awareness, ability to develop professional relationships and competent with data input.
* Previous experience as a Screening Practitioner is not essential but experience in endoscopy would be beneficial; ability to think creatively and contribute to service improvement initiatives; awareness of NHS agendas; ability to produce reports and interpret data relating to the BCSP; knowledge of current issues in nursing and health care.
* Ability to travel to and provide cover at all sites; driving required due to site geography.

£32,073 to £39,043 a year, pro rata if part time.
