Role Summary
* Ensure the provision of the laboratory's scientific service in line with Trust objectives, grade, and responsibilities.
* Provide high-quality analytical, advisory, and interpretive services to clinicians for processing pathological specimens in Haematology and Blood Transfusion.
* Maintain departmental quality standards through adherence to SOPs, quality control programs, and equipment maintenance and troubleshooting.
* Assist in the ongoing training of staff.
* Participate in out-of-hours shift and on-call services as an autonomous practitioner.
* Support, educate, and troubleshoot all departmental equipment.
* Contribute to quality standards through audits and quality management activities.
* Coordinate trial and development work within the laboratory.

The Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust provides core healthcare services to over 615,000 people across North, Mid, and East Devon, along with specialist services nationwide and in Europe. The Trust operates transfusion laboratories at Barnstaple and Exeter, with the northern site nestled in scenic Devon. The laboratory collaborates with the University of Exeter Medical School, supporting research and clinical translation, especially in diabetes and gastroenterology autoimmunity.
We seek a motivated individual to join our team at Barnstaple in Haematology and Transfusion. The department uses advanced analyzers and systems, is UKAS accredited under ISO 15189, and approved for IBMS training. Candidates must be HCPC registered, with IBMS specialist portfolio or equivalent, and at least 2 years' NHS laboratory experience. Strong organizational, communication, and technical skills are essential, with readiness for 24/7 shift work after training.
Working Pattern: 37.5 hours/week, Monday to Friday, 09:00-17:30, with out-of-hours lone working during nights and weekends.
