Overview
Senior Advisor - Future Agriculture - Environmental Land Management (ELM) – 31666. The Environment Agency is reforming agricultural policy and spending through ELM schemes to deliver public goods in return for public funding. You will influence the design and delivery of incentives within the wider context of regulatory reform and support our organisational response to government reviews. The role focuses on delivering key Countryside Stewardship Higher Tier (CSHT) products, informing and shaping the future of ELM, and working with Defra, delivery bodies, and the agriculture sector to improve services for farmers.
Responsibilities
* Provide advice in meetings, manage commissions, and oversee programme milestones.
* Identify risks and resource requirements; work across teams and with senior leaders to articulate a scheme that delivers outcomes.
* Contribute to continuous improvement of the CSHT through design and delivery.
* Engage with the Nature & Place Directorate and National Agriculture and Land Team; collaborate with government, statutory bodies, and industry in an agile, fast-paced environment.
* Represent EA expertise to Defra and other stakeholders to achieve consistency and improved collaboration.
Experience and Qualifications
* Experience of Agriculture and working with Defra and other statutory bodies is essential.
* Politically aware with excellent communication and networking skills.
* Understanding of environmental sensitivities related to major agricultural reforms.
* Experience interpreting/evaluating evidence to propose risk-based solutions for challenging problems.
* Ability to prioritise and deliver complex work; self-starter who develops and advances ideas.
* Ability to build relationships quickly and to deliver results through others.

Location and Flexibility
EA Office base location; national role with flexible/hybrid working in England. Some travel and overnight stays may be required. We use smart tools to stay connected and reduce travel.
