About the Role
Through our vital research, the National Physical Laboratory supports scientific and commercial innovations, international trade, environmental protection, and health and wellbeing. As our Senior Engineer, you'll join our Engineering Manufacture group with a focus on costing and estimation. This is a full-time role based in Teddington.
You will develop and apply advanced knowledge, techniques, and technology, impacting our business and the UK. Your passion will drive continuous learning and knowledge sharing within the team.
Responsibilities include:
* Engaging with internal customers and the design team to understand requirements and ensure successful delivery.
* Supporting design and project activities, advising on Design for Manufacture, and contributing to project governance such as Manufacturing Readiness Reviews.
* Assessing manufacturing projects using CAD models, drawings, and specifications to produce plans, cost estimates, budgets, and schedules.
* Developing manufacturing methods for bespoke, low-batch, research-led projects.
* Collaborating with manufacturing technicians to deliver projects on cost, schedule, and quality.
* Maintaining relationships with key suppliers.
We operate in a hybrid model of remote and on-site work, with a preference for on-site presence in Teddington due to role requirements.
About You
Key skills and experience include:
* Proficiency in resource assessment for manufacturing projects, including operations, tooling, and materials.
* Experience with estimating and costing techniques.
* Knowledge of manufacturing methods, CNC and conventional machining, CAD to CAM programming.
* Strong leadership and communication skills, with experience managing multidisciplinary teams.
* Engineering degree or equivalent qualification.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience with production control/MRP systems.
* Additional knowledge of electrical/electronics manufacturing is advantageous.
