Job Description
The Small Claims Litigation Paralegal is responsible for managing and resolving pre‑claim and Small Claims Court matters across England and Wales, from initial case assessment through to final advocacy at hearing.
You will manage a rolling caseload of around 25 cases per year and play a critical role in protecting the client’s interests and ensuring compliance with relevant legal frameworks, particularly in consumer‑related disputes.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage a caseload of pre‑claim and Small Claims Court matters, taking ownership from inception to final hearing and resolution.
* Conduct thorough legal research and analysis.
* Draft, review, and submit persuasive legal letters, statements of case, witness statements, and applications to the court.
* Represent the client effectively at Small Claims Court hearings, providing clear and concise advocacy.
* Proactively engage with various internal business teams to gather necessary information, evidence, and technical details relevant to ongoing cases.
Qualifications Skills & Experience
* CILEX Litigation qualification (Paralegal or equivalent) is essential.
* Must hold litigation practice rights as authorised by CILEX Regulation Limited.
* Working knowledge and experience of the Civil Procedure Rules (CPR) relevant to small claims, consumer protection law (including sale of goods legislation and product liability laws), and fundamental principles of contract law.
* Experience in managing and advocating for cases within the Small Claims Court jurisdiction in England & Wales.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a proven ability to draft clear and concise documents, and present persuasive legal arguments.
* Capable of managing a diverse and demanding workload independently, prioritising tasks effectively to meet deadlines.
