Offer description

Go back Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust

Band 7 Non Medical Prescriber

The closing date is 16 July 2025

An exciting opportunity has arisen within Solihull Integrated Addiction Service (SIAS) to recruit a Non-Medical Prescriber (NMP). SIAS is an NHS-led partnership of 3 agencies (BSMHFT, Aquarius and Welcome) that provides care for both young people and adults who are experiencing problems with drugs, alcohol or gambling in the Solihull area. In conjunction with the Consultant Psychiatrist (Dr Ed Day), junior doctors, and the existing NMP, the appointee will be expected to deliver a high-quality evidence-based service that both reduces harm and promotes and facilitates recovery. The NMP will manage a caseload of patients receiving opioid agonist treatment, ensure prescribing capacity for the drug and alcohol detoxification service, and relevant prescribing input to the physical health service. The job will provide plenty of variety, an opportunity to use high level clinical and leadership skills, and opportunities for continuing professional development, including involvement in local and national research projects.

Experience of prescribing within addiction services would be an advantage, but training and support will be available to support anyone new to this area of practice.

Main duties of the job

* Conduct comprehensive assessments and reviews of service users with substance misuse disorders.
* Initiate, continue, and monitor prescribing of appropriate medications such as opioid substitution therapy (OST), relapse prevention medications, and symptomatic treatments.
* Ensure prescribing is evidence-based, aligned with national guidelines (NICE, Orange Book), and reflects individual care plans.
* Work closely with consultants, nurses, psychologists, recovery workers, pharmacists, and social care partners.
* Monitor physical health and ensure access to wider healthcare pathways (e.g., blood-borne virus testing, liver health, primary care liaison).
* Contribute to and attend multi-disciplinary team (MDT) meetings, providing specialist pharmacological input.
* Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential clinical records using Trust-approved systems.
* Participate in audits, supervision, and continuous professional development in line with Trust standards.
* Uphold safeguarding responsibilities and respond to risk in a timely and responsible manner.
