Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and reliable Caretaker to join our team. This role will provide caretaking, cleaning and maintenance services to council owned buildings and assets, and maintain and improve all places and spaces in Shaftesbury.

Responsibilities
Site inspections (subject to training):
* Periodic (monthly/quarterly/annual) health & safety checks on all sites for which the Council is responsible.
* Carry out basic repairs according to inspection actions.
* Liaise with external inspectors and contractors to carry out other repairs and maintenance
* Accurately document and photograph all works using the current reporting procedure.
Maintenance and improvement:
* Maintenance and repair tasks, such as painting, repairing playground equipment, basic woodwork, DIY tasks.
* Install and maintain street furniture such as benches, bins and signage.
* Complete periodical maintenance, health and safety and cleaning checks, tests and logs.
* Carry out horticultural and landscaping tasks in collaboration with the Grounds contractor.
General caretaking duties
* Carry out basic visual inspections of play areas and other public spaces.
* Open and close the Town Hall; completing practical checks and identify repairs and maintenance.
* General basic maintenance tasks such as painting and odd jobs.
* Assist with town events - including events on STC sites; and events organised or supported by the Council.
* Drive company vehicles safely and responsibly, including carrying out basic pre-use safety checks (e.g., fluids, tyres, lights) to ensure roadworthiness.
* Respond to emergency call outs that require a presence within the Town Hall.
* Contribute to task and site risk assessments to ensure safe and sensible working practices.
* Carry out any administration in relation to the duties above using technology such as phones and tablets where appropriate.
Qualifications
* Previous experience in caretaking or maintenance roles.
* Strong attention to detail with the ability to follow instructions accurately.
* Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritise tasks effectively.
* A proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to work independently.
* Good physical fitness as the role will involve lifting and moving equipment or materials and will also require working outside in all weathers
* A valid driving licence is essential
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: £14.13 per hour
