Generative artificial intelligence (AI) describes algorithms that can be used to produce new content, including audio, code, images, text, simulations, and videos. It is developing all the time and is now being used as a support mechanism for all kinds of content-based creations. Please note the use of AI is monitored and if applicants have used it then they are required to declare this.

An opportunity has arisen to be seconded to the well-established Paediatric Intensive Care Clinical Research Team for 6 months, to contribute to the delivery of research studies on the unit. This Clinical Research Nurse post will be 22.5 hours per week at band 6, usually worked as a 2-week research/2-week clinical rotation with the post holder’s clinical post.

The Clinical Research Nurse will support the management and leadership of the research delivery, clinical and support teams within Paediatric Intensive Care (PIC). S/he will have knowledge and understanding of the regulatory and legal frameworks related to the planning, undertaking and closure of clinical research studies and therefore acts as a resource for staff, researchers, research participants and patients. S/he will take a lead or co-lead in ensuring the safe and effective delivery of studies undertaken within PIC and will work collaborative with other clinical teams, children, and families across Bristol Royal Hospital for Children (BRHC).

Study Set Up

1. Ensure all elements of set up are completed in accordance with UK and EU legal requirements, Trust policies and ICH-GCP or IS0 14155, as appropriate, whether conducted personally or through appropriate delegation.
2. All studies will comply with the W&C Divisional Research Unit Governance Structure.
3. Provide advice and guidance on matters relating to research ethics and governance and in preparing submissions for regulatory and trust approval.
4. Have knowledge and understanding of research design and methodology or willing to develop.
5. Contribute to the assessment of study protocols and advise on any safety, regulatory and logistical issues.
6. Act as point of contact for R&I in the feasibility process for designated studies
7. Project manage study set up with colleagues from around the trust (support departments, finance etc) and (if appropriate) within the University of Bristol (academic studies)
