About The Role
Plater - Altrad (Connah's Quay)
Job Overview
A Plater for Altrad fabricates, assembles, and repairs specialised metal components and structures for power stations and related infrastructure. This role interprets technical drawings, prepares and processes materials, and performs detailed fabrication work to support power generation operations. The Plater ensures all finished work meets the strict safety, reliability, and quality standards required in a power generation environment.
Key Duties
* Read and interpret detailed engineering drawings and technical documents, including isometric and schematic diagrams specific to thermal power equipment.
* Select, prepare, and handle specialist metal materials, such as heat-resistant alloys and pressure vessel plates, suitable for boilers, turbines, condensers, or piping systems.
* Lay out, measure, and mark metal plates using precision tools for the manufacture and repair of power station equipment and supporting structures.
* Use manual and powered cutting, forming, and shaping tools to create complex components and assemblies for thermal power applications.
* Assemble and align parts for high-pressure and high-temperature systems, using approved bolting, welding, and fastening methods.
* Carry out fabrication and repair work on site or in workshops, including work on boiler tanks, ducts, pressure vessels, supports, and ancillary steelwork.
* Perform grinding, sanding, dressing, and finishing of components to meet industry and regulatory standards.
* Work with maintenance teams to inspect, repair, and modify installed structures as required to minimise downtime and maintain operational efficiency.
* Report defects, non-conformances, or potential safety issues to supervisors and follow corrective procedures strictly.
* Follow strict safe work practices, including working with hot surfaces, pressurised systems, and hazardous materials.
* Operate lifting and rigging equipment to position large or heavy metal sections safely during fabrication or installation.
* Keep tools, equipment, and work area clean and organised, adhering to all power plant cleanliness and operational standards.
* Collaborate closely with engineers, supervisors, and other trades to ensure all work aligns with project requirements and production targets.
Required Qualifications
* Proven experience as a Plater or Fabricator in the thermal power industry or a similar heavy industrial environment.
* Demonstrated skill in reading and working from complex engineering drawings and documentation relevant to power generation equipment.
* Experience with high-grade metals, pressure vessels, and structural steel used in power station construction or maintenance.
* Competence in cutting, forming, and joining techniques specific to power plant fabrication work.
* Thorough understanding of health, safety, and environmental regulations for power generation sites.
* Ability to work at heights and within confined spaces as required by site conditions.
* Physical fitness for manual work and handling heavy components securely and efficiently.
* Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality, particularly for safety-critical systems.
* Willingness to participate in additional training specific to the thermal power sector and site requirements.
* Relevant qualifications in metal fabrication or a related field are preferred.
* Valid ECITB CCNSG Safety Passport
