Fixed Term Contract from October 2025 to Summer 2028 The UEFA EURO 2028 Volunteers will provide everyone, especially fans, with a warm welcome to the UK & Ireland, across our Stadiums, Host Cities, Fanzones and transport hubs in the Summer of 2028. In addition, Volunteers will assist UEFA EURO 2028 with event delivery operations across a considerable range of projects, providing a unique opportunity to thousands of Volunteers be actively part and an ambassador of this mega-sports event. The Volunteer Management team together with UEFA EURO 2028 project teams will ensure all Volunteers have a memorable, safe and enjoyable EURO 2028, where they feel valued and appreciated for their huge contribution to the tournament. The Role The Head of Volunteer Management (UK&I 2028) is a key role in UK & Ireland 2028, who will lead the delivery of meaningful and sustainable Volunteer strategy across the planning, development implementation and debriefing of the project. The Volunteer programme which the Head of Volunteer Management will lead, includes, but is not limited to; Leading the Volunteer Management team, Reporting to senior management, Promotion & Publicity, Application Management, Recruitment & Selection, Training, Shift Scheduling, Uniform distribution, Communication & Engagement, Reward & Recognition through to Tournament Mobilisation and project close down. What will you be doing? Leadership, Management & Planning Recruit, lead and manage a Volunteer Management team of approx. 40 employees to implement the UEFA EURO 2028 volunteer programme in accordance with concept, guidelines and instructions provided by UEFA and UK & Ireland 2028, within the allocated budget and in line with UK & Irish legislation Positively represent both UEFA and UK & Ireland 2028 as the spokesperson for the Volunteer programme. This includes being the lead representative across our 8 Host Cities and relevant authorities, ensuring all stakeholders and partners are aligned in the delivery of the Volunteer programme Keep the project within the defined objectives, ensuring that all stakeholders involved understand and accept their responsibilities, maintaining the resources focused on the project execution, making the necessary adjustments, keeping files for the project, arbitrating and resolving conflicts and regular senior management reporting on the status of the project Coordinate with potential sponsor(s) for the volunteer programme, working closely with the marketing unit of UEFA Budget management responsibility for the end to end Volunteer programme including regular reporting Adhere to all local legislation and best practice related to volunteering, including legal agreements, data protection, data processing, policies/procedures and insurance Attraction, Recruitment & Training Plan and deliver a successful promotion campaign (inc budget) across the UK & Ireland, through publicity strategies and PR campaigns to encourage large numbers of applications, particularly through the use of social media channels and platforms. Creating engaging content that highlights the benefits and impact of volunteering in football. Develop a programme which builds excitement for the tournament. Develop an innovative, progressive and cost-efficient recruitment strategy to ensure a fair, robust and engaging recruitment process is delivered to all applicants Working closely with UEFA, ensure the team recruits the right quality and number of volunteers, who can offer the time availability needed, with the right profile and characteristics required by each UEFA target group Ensure the delivery of a successful long term volunteer programme in the lead up to UEFA EURO 2028 to assist with a range of aspects of the Volunteer journey including interviewing and assessment of tournament time volunteers Deliver an engaging and educational training programme to equip Volunteers with the knowledge, enthusiasm, information and skills required to carry out their roles successfully, and safely. This will include the planning and production of a large scale professionally produced virtual Kick Off for all volunteers. Use Rosterfy applicant and volunteer management modules and the volunteer mobile application as ICT tools provided by UEFA for the implementation of the project. Event Operations Ensure the smooth running of the UEFA EURO 2028 volunteer programme across multiple sites in UK & Ireland Acting as a service provider towards all operational projects requesting volunteers Liaise with relevant UEFA units regarding the supply of the volunteer uniform, accreditation, volunteer gift(s), transport solution, food and beverages for the volunteers and the related facilities (volunteers’ centres/hubs) Maintain daily accurate reporting to the Tournament Operations Centre about the ongoing operations, critical issues and achievements during the tournament Escalation point for crisis management and incidents in relation to Volunteers throughout the Tournament Organising farewell events for volunteers Provide reports and debriefs after the delivery of the event Executes additional tasks as required in order to meet changing priorities. Comply with all company policies and procedures to ensure the highest standards of health, safety and wellbeing can be maintained What are we looking for? Proven experience of managing large scale Volunteer programmes within major events Experience of leading end to end high volume recruitment campaigns An experienced people manager with an ability to inspire and motivate people An understanding of working with volunteers, their needs and motivations Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to establish relationships at all levels Experience of managing large, complex projects and budgets Outstanding communication and presentation skills with confidence presenting to large audiences Strong organisation skills with ability to deliver under pressure Experience of using Volunteer Management systems, preferably Rosterfy Problem-solving skills, ability to address challenges and find effective solutions As an event delivery organisation, it’s important that we have regular time together in the office and currently employees come together at least 2/3 days a week at HQ in Wembley, with the number of days in HQ increasing as the project develops with a minimum of 3-4 days needed in 2026-2027 and full time in the year of 2028.
