Your Impact

We have an exciting opportunity for a Training Equipment Manager, based at Leonardo Helicopters.

Reporting to the Simulation Learning and Support Services Manager (SL&SS [UK]), this role is responsible for the engineering project lifecycle of SL&SS products (Equipment, Media, SW and Applications) in order to assure the delivery of high quality Training products, in accordance with Customer (or Internal) specification, requirements and regulatory standards.

In this role, you will be responsible within SL&SS - as part of a matrix organisation - for the leadership and management of a team of up to 10; ensuring requirement management, test and acceptance, data and hardware are fully integrated to deliver a technically compliant product.

You will work closely in conjunction with the nominated Integrated Project Team (IPT) Lead, Customers, Suppliers and internal business functions.

The role will also provide SL&SS input to Training bids and proposals including system requirements definition and technical proposal documentation.

What you will do as the Training Equipment Manager:

Team Management

1. Manage, train and develop your management team to meet the business needs.
2. Highlight risks and opportunities to the department and wider IPT as required.

Project Delivery

• You will lead the technical delivery of Training and Support Equipment products through the engineering project lifecycle to achieve the required contract, programme and technical milestones, to include oversight of the wider SL&SS team for:

o System Requirements elicitation, decomposition and capture

o Hardware specification, installation and test

o Verification and Validation of System Requirements

o Timely and accurate data deliveries to support training equipment suppliers in accordance with project schedule

• Provision of Technical Oversight of Supplier design, manufacture, integration, test and delivery, including;

o Development of Workshare and Statements of Work for collaborative projects

o Provision of Technical Data to support Supplier workshare activities

• You will liaise closely with the Integrated Project Teams to ensure a mutual understanding of technical risks, issues and relevant mitigations.

• You will liaise as necessary with other LHD departments to ensure that SQEP are available to support development and testing.

Technical support to Training Equipment bids and proposals:

• You will provide technical support to the Training Bids and Proposals team in support of bid work involving Training Equipment. This may include:

o Support to equipment architecture scoping,

o Creation of Statements of Work for sub-vendor pricing,

o Authoring of indicative schedules and resource allocation estimation.

What you will bring:

Essential

• Educated to HND or Degree level in an engineering discipline; alternatively extensive system engineering experience or experience of military aviation and aircrew instruction.

• Understanding of the system engineering ‘V-model’ and iterative software and testing lifecycles; (unit, module and system testing, regression testing, etc.);

• Experience in operating within industry standard design practices and quality assurance processes;

• General knowledge of helicopter training and operations – both military and civil.

• Ability to build, develop and maintain relationships with key project stakeholders based upon trust to ensure that the Projects objectives are met

• Strong team management skills, including task delegation, performance monitoring, and fostering collaboration to achieve project goals.

Desirable

• Experience of Software (SW) and Hardware (HW) testing at system, integration and acceptance testing levels;

• Working knowledge of ISO/IEC/IEEE 29148; Systems and software engineering - Life cycle processes — Requirements engineering;

• Qualification and/or suitable level of Project Management experience, preferably in delivering complex Equipment and Software within the Aerospace industry.

• Knowledge of Civil Simulator Certification standards (ICAO, EASA, RAeS, FAA);

• Awareness of the UK MAA Simulator Approval for Use process (RA2375);

• Understanding of the principles underpinning the UK Defence Systems Approach to Training (DSAT) Training Design process;

• Familiarity with the UK MOD’s Acquisition System Guidance (ASG);

• Full UK Driving Licence;

This role is subject to pre-employment screening in line with the UK Government’s Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS). An additional range of Personnel Security Controls referred to as National Security Vetting (NSV) may apply, this could include meeting the eligibility requirements for The Security Check (SC) or Developed Vetting (DV).
