About the role
Hays Education is recruiting Qualified Science Teachers (QTS) to work on a supply basis across a range of secondary schools in Bristol and the surrounding areas. We are seeking enthusiastic teachers specialising in Biology, Chemistry or Physics who can deliver high‑quality lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4. Opportunities for KS5 teaching are available in some placements.
We support schools with:
1. Day‑to‑day Science cover
2. Short‑term block work
3. Long‑term Science roles, including Easter and September starts

What you'll be doing
As a Science Supply Teacher, you will:
4. Teach Biology, Chemistry, Physics or general Science across KS3–KS4
5. Deliver engaging practical and theory lessons
6. Maintain a safe, well‑managed classroom environment
7. Follow schemes of work and ensure consistency for students
8. Adapt quickly to different schools, labs and departmental processes
9. Support student progress, curiosity and scientific thinking
Long‑term placements may include planning, marking, assessments and contributing to department life.
What you'll need to succeed
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
10. Strong subject knowledge in Science (any discipline)
11. Experience teaching in a UK secondary school (ECT placements accepted)
12. Strong behaviour management and confident practical lesson delivery
13. The right to work in the UK
14. An Enhanced DBS, or willingness to obtain one
15. A flexible, positive approach to supply work
16. ECTs encouraged to apply
