If so, we are looking for a motivated, proactive deputy ward manager to join our friendly and supportive team on ward 38

We are looking for an enthusiastic, hardworking, proactive candidate with respiratory experience who is passionate about delivering a high quality service. We are looking for a registered nurse who is able to demonstrate leadership skills to assist with the running of a busy acute respiratory ward .

Ward 38 (RSU) is a 37 bedded Respiratory ward that cares for patients with a wide range of respiratory and medical conditions. The ward is a busy environment & we strive to give excellent patient care from arrival to a safe discharge.

Inclusive on the area are 7 respiratory support unit (RSU) beds that provides non invasive ventilation, High Flow Nasal Oxygen, and patients with Tracheostomy.


Main duties of the job

We are looking for a caring, compassionate individual that is well organised, thrives under pressure and feels ready to develop their leadership skills. The Ideal candidate should be knowledgeable, approachable and possess the ability to remain calm under pressure, preferably with two years post registration. The ideal candidate must also show evidence of change management or be able to discuss changes which they have been involved in.

The Post holders will be expected to support the Ward Sister in coordination of the ward. The post will be rotational to cover a 7 day working week covering days/nights ensuring the smooth day to day running of the ward maintained.

The teamwork between the medical, nursing and allied health professionals ensures the constant delivery and focus on high quality patient care.

Person Specification


Qualifications, Specific Experience & Training

* 1st Level Registered Nurse (relevant to area of work)
* Relevant diploma / degree or due for completion within 12 months
* Minimum of three years post-registration experience of which two years should be at Primary Nurse or equivalent
* Recognised teaching qualification


Knowledge and Skills

* Relevant Clinical knowledge/experience of the speciality
* Evidence of ability to act as a preceptor/mentor to new staff
* Evidence of involvement in producing teaching strategies/packages


Knowledge and Skills

* Evidence of an initiative which has changed or enhanced clinical practice
* Competent in organising own work load and that of others
* Good problem solving abilities
* Awareness of Health Policies and the changing NHS environment
* Able to support and advise the team
* Act as a positive role model
* Able to deal with conflict


Personal Attributes

* Excellent communicator (verbal and written)
* Self - motivated
* Sensitive and Emphathetic
* Self Confident


Other Requirements

* Recognises own development needs and able to set personal objectives
* Has identified methods of dealing effectively under pressure
