Job Summary
CAMHS Youth Justice Service Specialist mental Health Clinician (Clinical Psychologist, Mental health Nurse, Child Psychotherapist, Family Therapist, Mental Health Social worker), Maternity leave cover

Contract: 12 months (fixed term)

Hours: Part-time - 6 sessions per week

Grade: NHS AfC Band 7

Annual Leave: 27 days per annum increasing to 29 days after 5 years NHS service and 33 days after 10 years NHS service

Site: Isledon Road, London N7 (YJS Partner agency)

Responsible to: CAMHS YJS Team manager

Accountable to: Deputy Associate Director for CAMHS

Salary: £43,742-50,056 per annum

Responsibilities

Main duties of the job

* Screening and assessing Children and Young people where there is consent for CAMHS to become involved
* Determining whether further therapeutic work would be beneficial; liaising with further services where more input is needed and sharing any risk concerns
* Provide ongoing work to children and young people who would like to continue accessing therapeutic support
* Provide a flexible approach to therapeutic support, generally working with children up to the completion of court order where necessary
* Provide consultation spaces, offering one hour bi-monthly to each case manager to consult on their caseload of children and young people to identify any mental health concerns, support with delivery of intervention
* Attend weekly Early Intervention and Diversion panel meetings (Multi-agency) where all children and young people who have come into contact with the police are discussed
* Offer mental health screening to children and young people discussed at the Early Intervention Diversion panel when necessary; review case notes on health care records and summarize on a need-to-know basis
* Provide a CAMHS service within YJS in line with service level agreement and Key performance indicators

Essential Qualifications and Experience

Education / Qualifications

* A professional qualification in Social Work, Nursing, Psychology, Child Psychotherapy, Family Therapy or other core mental health discipline.
* Registration with the relevant professional body (e.g. HCPC, NMC, ACP, UKCP)

Skills / Abilities

* High level knowledge of psychological theory and practice relevant to anti-social and offending young people, e.g., social learning theory and cognitive behavioural therapy.
* Knowledge and skills in psychological and psychometric methods for assessment and management of children and young people.
* Ability to work in a collaborative, team-based model to deliver high-quality health care to challenging, disadvantaged and high-complexity groups, including contextual safeguarding, in non-health settings.
* Ability to form good working relationships and work flexibly with colleagues in multidisciplinary, multi-agency and criminal justice settings.
* Ability to communicate complex, highly technical information to clients, families, carers and professionals.
* Ability to identify and apply clinical governance mechanisms to support practice.
* Ability to type letters and reports and maintain notes on our electronic records (RIO and Child View).

Experience

* Experience of generic, discipline-specific and forensic mental health assessments and treatments of children and families across a range of ages.
* Experience of multidisciplinary team meetings and co-working assessments and treatment.
* Experience of working with children and young people with conduct disorder or current/historical offending behaviour.
* Experience of joint working with staff in community settings who may not have mental health backgrounds.
* Knowledge of legislation and national policies relevant to children and young people (safeguarding, child protection, Common Assessment Framework).
* Commitment to equality, diversity, inclusion and equity in practice.

Personal Qualities

* Ability to engage with CYP and families from diverse backgrounds and communities.
* Kindness, compassion, and ability to work collaboratively in multi-disciplinary and multi-agency settings.
* Ability to work independently and seek support as appropriate; use supervision spaces effectively.
* Strong organisational and planning skills; ability to present information in various formats.
* Creative approach to engaging CYP who may be nervous about accessing the service.
* Excellent written and verbal communication for sensitive information sharing both within and outside of services.
