About us

UCL is one of the world’s leading universities, recognised globally for its academic excellence, pioneering research and diverse international community. Located in the heart of London, UCL supports more than 50,000 students and staff across one of the largest and most complex estates in UK higher education, spanning more than 240 buildings and 6.5 million square feet of academic, research and residential space.

Within this environment, the Campus Experience and Commercial Services team plays a vital role in shaping how students, staff and visitors experience UCL’s campus. From student accommodation and events to the spaces and services that support daily university life, the team works to create a welcoming, engaging and high-quality campus experience.

We are now seeking a dynamic and creative Communications Manager to join our award-winning team and help tell the story of this work across UCL and beyond.

About the role

This is an exciting time to join the Campus Experience and Infrastructure division at UCL. As the university continues to invest in its campus, student experience and infrastructure, the Communications Manager will play a central role in strengthening how we communicate the work of Estates and Campus services across the UCL community and beyond. The role offers a unique opportunity to help grow awareness, understanding and engagement with the vital work taking place across UCL’s estate and campus experience functions.

Reporting to the Head of Marketing, Communications and Experience, the Communications Manager will lead the development and delivery of an integrated communications strategy across a wide range of digital and print channels. This includes overseeing departmental websites, social media platforms, newsletters, campaigns and publications, ensuring that communications are clear, engaging and aligned with UCL’s wider strategic priorities.

Working closely with colleagues across central services, Students’ Union UCL and other stakeholders, the postholder will ensure that communications are coordinated, accessible and reach the audiences who need them most.

You will lead on the creation of compelling content for a range of audiences, from students and staff to external partners and visitors, while also using analytics and insight to continuously improve communications effectiveness. The role will also line manage three Communications Officers and contribute to the wider work of the Marketing, Communications and Experience team.

This is an opportunity for a creative and strategic communications professional to shape how UCL communicates the work of its campus and infrastructure services at a time of significant development and transformation. This role is available as an internal secondment opportunity for UCL staff until 24 April 2027.

About you

You are an experienced communications professional with a strong track record of delivering strategic communications and campaigns across a variety of channels. You will be comfortable producing high-quality content for multiple audiences, including digital platforms, social media and print publications.

You will bring excellent writing and editing skills, with the ability to translate complex or technical information into clear and engaging communications. Experience managing websites and digital communications platforms, alongside knowledge of tools such as content management systems, CRM platforms and analytics tools, will enable you to deliver communications that are both creative and evidence-led.

Strong organisational and project management skills are essential, as the role involves coordinating multiple communications activities and campaigns simultaneously. You will be confident working collaboratively with colleagues across a large and complex organisation, building positive relationships with a wide range of stakeholders to ensure communications are joined up and effective.

You will also have experience leading or coordinating communications projects and supporting teams to deliver high-quality outputs. As a line manager, you will bring a supportive and collaborative approach to developing colleagues and ensuring the team delivers impactful communications.

Most importantly, you will be enthusiastic about helping to tell the story of UCL’s campus and infrastructure services and about engaging the university community in the work that underpins the student and staff experience.
