Due to the continued growth of GEM, we are expanding our Finance team and are currently hiring an experienced Accounts Payable/Purchase Ledger Clerk who will be required to process purchase orders, invoices and assist with payments to suppliers as part of the finance department.
GEM is a rapidly expanding, London-based SME delivering heating, mechanical, electrical and water services for Local Councils and Social Housing providers. We provide a variety of services from one off installations and servicing to capital investment schemes and planned preventative maintenance programs with an emergency call out service 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year.
We are seeking a detail-oriented and organised Purchase LedgerClerkto join our finance team. Theindividual will playa crucial role in maintaining accurate financial records related to purchases and expenditures within the organisation. This role involves processing invoices, reconciling accounts, and ensuring timely and accurate payments to suppliers. The ideal candidate should possess strong analytical skills, a keen eye for accuracy, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities;
* Match invoices with purchase orders and delivery notes to validate the accuracy of transactions.
* Receive and review incoming invoices, verifying accuracy and completeness of information.
* Code and enter invoices into the financial system, ensuring proper allocation to relevant accounts and cost centers.

* Prepare payment runs in accordance with established payment terms and schedules.
* Receive and review incoming invoices, verifying accuracy and completeness of information.
* Code and enter invoices into the financial system, ensuring proper allocation to relevant accounts and cost centers.
* Liaise with internal departments to resolve invoice discrepancies or issues.
* Respond to supplier inquiries, resolve payment-related issues, and maintain positive supplier relationships.
* Enter purchase-related data into the accounting system with a high level of accuracy.
* Preparation of Staff & Contractor weekly expenses and assist in financial statements as needed.
* Assist in month-end closing processes by providing necessary reports and reconciliations.
* Ensure adherence to company policies, procedures, and relevant regulations.
* Collaborate with the finance team to provide support during audits and financial reporting processes.
* Identify opportunities to streamline processes and improve efficiency within the purchase ledger function.
* Ad hoc tasks as instructed by Financial Controller/Director
Key Skills
* Proficiency in using accounting software (e.g. Sage 200) and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
* Organised and can work to strict deadlines.
* Strong mathematical and analytical skills for accurate data entry, reconciliation, and calculations.
* Meticulous in reviewing and verifying financial documents and transactions.
* Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritise workload, and meet deadlines.
* Effective written and verbal communication skills to interact with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
* Resourceful in identifying and resolving discrepancies or issues in a timely manner.
* Collaborative attitude to work effectively within a team and support the finance department's goals.
* Maintain a high level of professionalism, confidentiality, and ethical behaviour in handling financial information.
Experience
* Prior experience in a similar role, preferably in a finance or accounting environment, is advantageous.
Terms and Conditions:
* This is a full-time permanent role based in Kentish Town, North London. Salary starting at £28,808. negotiabledepending on experience.
