Birmingham City Football Club is seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Casual Academy Doctor to join our Academy Medical Department. This role plays a vital part in delivering a high-quality medical service across all Academy age groups, ensuring the health, well-being, and performance of our young athletes.
This is an exciting opportunity for a committed medical professional with experience in sports medicine and a passion for developing young athletes within an elite football environment.
Key Responsibilities:
* Provide pitch-side medical support at Academy matchdays and training sessions.
* Assess, diagnose, and manage injuries and illnesses in Academy players.
* Collaborate closely with the wider Performance Support Team (physiotherapy, S&C, analysis, etc.) to deliver an integrated approach to player care.
* Maintain accurate medical records, assessments, and reports usingKitman Labs.
* Liaise with relevant staff regarding injury updates, rehabilitation progress, and return-to-play timelines, ensuring compliance with medical confidentiality.
* Attend MDT and pre-match medical briefings and contribute to trauma management planning.
* Provide support on tours and matchdays, including weekends and evenings as required.
* Ensure all work adheres to Clinical Governance standards and UK medical best practices.
* Offer guidance on anti-doping regulations and manage player whereabouts as required.
* Uphold the Club’s safeguarding standards and contribute to a safe, inclusive environment for all players.
What are we looking for from you?
* GMC Registered
* FA Advanced Trauma and Medical Management in Football (ATMMiF)qualified
* Experience in general practice and/or sports medicine, ideally with paediatric MSK exposure
* Calm, professional, and composed under pressure
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills
* Flexible and adaptable with the ability to work evenings, weekends, and unsociable hours
* Committed to ongoing CPD and professional growth
* Excellent time management, reliability, and professionalism
* PGDip or MSc in Sports Medicine
* Previous experience working in a professional football academy or similar elite sporting environment
* Experience with Elite Player Performance Plan (EPPP) protocols and Kitman Labs
* FA Child Welfare and FA Safeguarding qualifications
* Full UK Driving Licence
* Previous involvement in an academy audit process
