Overview
Applications are invited for two full-time (1.0 WTE) Locum Consultant Interventional Radiologists. The posts have arisen to cover maternity leave to start 9/2/26 and 16/3/26 for 7 months and 10 months respectively.
Responsibilities
* Perform diagnostic and interventional radiology with experience in vascular, endovascular, and non-vascular procedures as described below.
* Embolization to support the on-call service (e.g., GI bleeding, trauma embolization, uterine artery embolization for post-partum haemorrhage).
* Perform peripheral arterial and venous interventions to support current service demand at St Mary’s Hospital.
* Contribute to rapid imaging access and scan turnaround times while delivering a safe, high-quality service.
* Provide robust radiology trainee supervision for core and senior IR trainees and actively contribute to training and supervision.
* Join an on-call rota for out-of-hour emergencies.
* Contribute to general reporting in the department, including CT/MRI and plain radiographs.
* Assist with the cross-site duty rota to support rapid IP/ED reporting performance and trainee supervision.
* Support the delivery of the IR service resilience across CXH/HH sites and contribute to staffed services at related sites.
Qualifications
* CCT in Radiology and registration on the GMC Speciality Register (or within 6 months of being granted a CCT at the time of interview).
* Experience in general vascular and endovascular procedures, reno-vascular interventions including dialysis access, Gastro-intestinal, HPB and urological interventions.
* Experience in embolization to support on-call service (e.g., GI bleeding, trauma embolization, postpartum haemorrhage management).
* Ability to perform aortic and peripheral arterial and venous interventions including EVARs and TEVARs to support current demand (ideally).
* Interest in training and research aligned with the Academic Health Sciences Centre.
Employment Details
* Split between Hammersmith and Charing Cross Hospitals with some flexible working at St Mary’s Hospital as required.
* On-call requirements for out-of-hour emergencies at CXH/HH sites.
* Whole-time contract (Total of 10 PAs of activity): 9 PAs per week for Clinical Activities (including clinically related activity and emergencies) and 1 PA per week for Supporting Professional Activities.
* Consultant IR team has adopted a flexible working week to improve coverage; some IR sessions will be fixed and others flexibly scheduled.
Context and Career
The post will allow for maintenance of IR service resilience and aim to reduce waiting times for renal vascular, cancer, and urology services across sites.
