Job Description

Large slaughterhouses and animal‑by‑products installations are required to use ‘Best Available Techniques’ (BAT) to reduce emissions to air, water and land. We have established a process for the definition of BAT within the UK. The regime uses the BAT concept principles – a transparent, collaborative, data‑ and evidence‑led process that safeguards and builds on the current high levels of environmental protection. Central to this process will be the UK BAT Author.
Responsibilities
* Draft BAT Conclusions and liaise with Technical Working Groups.
* Present a final document suitable for publication as a new, UK‑wide, environmental standard for industry.
* Work with, write, and review technical documents.
* Provide inclusive incident management support and develop incident roles to suit individual needs and circumstances.
* Support the UK BAT Team and report to DEFRA and the Standards Council on progress and delivery.
* Collaborate in a positive, inclusive, and supportive culture where everyone feels valued.
* Schedule and travel as required, including occasional overnight stays.
Experience & Skills Required
* At least 5 years working experience in the slaughterhouse and animal‑by‑products industry.
* Solid understanding of environmental regulation of the industry.
* Good understanding of process engineering and environmental issues.
* Good understanding of environmental legislation and policy in the UK.
* Capability to critically analyse technical arguments and data.
* Ability to write and manage technical documents.
* Strong project management skills and a drive to complete.
