Job Description

Do you want to make a lasting positive change to the environment? As a Technical Author in the UK BAT team you can. Large slaughterhouses and animal‑by‑products installations are required to use ‘Best Available Techniques’ (BAT) to reduce emissions to air, water and land. We have established a process for the definition of BAT within the UK. The regime uses the BAT concept principles – a transparent, collaborative, data‑ and evidence‑led process that safeguards and builds on the current high levels of environmental protection. Central to this process will be the UK BAT Author.


Responsibilities

* Draft BAT Conclusions and liaise with Technical Working Groups.
* Present a final document suitable for publication as a new, UK‑wide, environmental standard for industry.
* Work with, write, and review technical documents.
* Provide inclusive incident management support and develop incident roles to suit individual needs and circumstances.
* Support the UK BAT Team and report to DEFRA and the Standards Council on progress and delivery.
* Collaborate in a positive, inclusive, and supportive culture where everyone feels valued.
* Schedule and travel as required, including occasional overnight stays.


Experience & Skills Required

* At least 5 years working experience in the slaughterhouse and animal‑by‑products industry.
* Solid understanding of environmental regulation of the industry.
* Good understanding of process engineering and environmental issues.
* Good understanding of environmental legislation and policy in the UK.
* Capability to critically analyse technical arguments and data.
* Ability to write and manage technical documents.
* Strong project management skills and a drive to complete.

Contract Length: up to 2 years from appointment.
