We are looking to welcome a phlebotomist to join our dynamic and supportive team at Village Health Group. We welcome applicants with or without GP surgery experience. If you have the right skills and qualities, we can provide ongoing support to develop professionally.
Knowledge and experience in the following areas would be ideal:
* Obtaining patient consent for the collection of a blood sample
* Performing venepuncture in accordance with practice protocols
* Maintaining accurate patient records on the clinical IT system
* The correct labelling, packaging, and storing of samples
* Effective use of the specimen log, resolving any discrepancies
* Ensuring samples are sent to the laboratory in a timely manner
* Maintaining an effective liaison with the NHS Trust laboratory staff
* Working collaboratively with the nursing team, seeking guidance when necessary for patient-related matters
Main duties of the job
You will also need a full driving license as you will be expected to work at either of our main sites, which are East Leake and Keyworth.
The role is part-time, 22.5 hours, 5 days per week.

Overview of Village Health Group (VHG)
VHG is a large GMS practice of around 26,000 patients in Rushcliffe, South Nottinghamshire. The practice was formed in April 2020 from the merger of East Leake Medical Group and Keyworth Medical Practice, both rated outstanding by the CQC. VHG operates across four sites, with main sites in East Leake and Keyworth and branch surgeries in Ruddington and Sutton Bonington.
VHG has 10 GP partners working alongside salaried GPs, nurse practitioners, practice nurses, nursing associates, health care assistants, clinical pharmacists, first contact physiotherapists, social prescribing link workers, and care coordinators. We are supported by local community nursing and therapy teams and utilize a well-developed multidisciplinary working model. We use the SystmOne clinical system.

Job responsibilities
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
* Perform venepuncture to collect blood samples from patients as requested by GPs, nurses, or other clinicians.
* Prepare and label specimens accurately and ensure safe and timely transport to the laboratories.
* Maintain accurate patient records using the clinical system (SystmOne).
* Adhere to infection prevention and control policies at all times.
* Reassure and support patients who may feel anxious or nervous about the procedure.
* Monitor stock levels of phlebotomy equipment and request resupply when necessary.
* Work closely with the wider clinical and administrative team to ensure smooth clinic operation.
* Ensure patient safety and dignity are maintained at all times.
* Escalate any concerns about a patient's condition or wellbeing to the appropriate clinician.
* Participate in clinical audits and quality improvement initiatives as required.
* Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with GDPR and NHS guidelines.
Person Specification
Experience
* Previous experience of venepuncture in a healthcare setting.
* Phlebotomy qualification/certificate or evidence of formal training.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
* Good IT and record-keeping skills.
* Understanding of the importance of infection control and patient confidentiality.
* Compassionate, calm, and professional approach to patient care.
* Experience working in a GP practice or community health setting.
* Knowledge of NHS systems such as SystmOne, or similar.
* Basic life support training.
* Awareness of health and safety and safeguarding procedures.
