<div><h3>Advance into Justice: Youth Justice Worker</h3><p>Advance into Justice is a recruitment scheme that supports Service Leavers, Armed Forces Veterans, their Spouses and Legal Partners in gaining employment within operational roles in HMPPS.</p><p>Eligible applicants who pass the assessment process will be offered a 2‑year fixed‑term appointment, with the option after 12 months to convert to permanency, subject to approval under Exception 10 of the Civil Service recruitment principles.</p><p>All provisional offers will be held for 12 months from the point of offer to allow service leavers to plan their exit from the Armed Forces and transition directly into a career with HMPPS.</p><h3>About the Role</h3><p>The Youth Custody Service is transforming its workforce and we want you to help us on this journey. The youth justice worker role is based on the prison officer role but specific to working in youth custody. You will be a driving force for changing how children and young people are cared for in custody.</p><p>You will be responsible for ensuring the security and safety of children and supporting them day‑to‑day in a custodial environment. You’ll receive training and development to understand the individual circumstances of young people in custody, and how your responses in complex or dynamic situations are key to helping them build better lives.</p><p>You will support children and young people who may have committed serious crimes, grown up in difficult settings, or have mental health concerns. A DBS check is required.</p><h3>Requirements</h3><ul><li>Be at least 18 years old at the commencement of employment</li><li>Meet the Civil Service nationality requirements</li><li>Pass a medical and fitness assessment</li><li>Meet the required eyesight standard in both eyes</li><li>For safety reasons, meet a suitable standard of hearing</li></ul><h3>Pay and Benefits</h3><p>Please refer to the main advert for pay scales for individual prisons.</p><p>Please refer to the main advert for benefits.</p><h3>Assessment Process</h3><p>During recruitment you will be assessed on the behaviours, strengths and abilities needed to become an effective youth justice worker, including:</p><ul><li>Communicating and influencing</li><li>Managing a quality service</li><li>Making effective decisions</li><li>Caring</li></ul><p>Following the assessment you may be invited to complete stage 1 of the online tests, then stage 2 (values‑based assessment), and finally an online assessment centre.</p><h3>Job Offers: Merit Vacancy</h3><p>This is a merit job vacancy. Successful candidates at the assessment centre will be placed on a merit list based on their score. When all candidates have completed the assessment centre, the prison will make job offers to individuals with the highest scores first as positions become available.</p><p>You can remain on the merit list for 12 months. After this period you will need to apply again.</p><h3>Operational Support Grade (OSG) Role</h3><p>Our Online Assessment Centre will also assess suitability for appointment as an Operational Support Grade OSG.
