Job description
The Purpose of the Post
· To assist the cook to provide a healthy and nutritious diet for young children attending the nursery.
· To assist in the provision of a high standard of food safety and cleanliness in the kitchen.

Accountability
You are responsible and accountable for your own actions; however your chain of command is as follows:
* Firstly, speak to the cook.
* If you feel that you cannot talk to the cook or that she/he is unable to help you, report to the Manager or Assistant Manager on duty.
* In exceptional circumstances you can ask for an appointment with the Company Director.
Main duties and responsibilities
Preparation of healthy food and drink for young children
· Assist in the preparation, cooking and serving of all food and drinks for children, having regard for the up to date advice from the environmental health and food standards agencies.
· Check that hot food is properly cooked and that where appropriate the temperature of the food is checked with a food thermometer. (Especially in the case of meat products).
· Assist Nursery staff when helping children to be safely involved in the preparation of their own food.
· Prepare crockery, cutlery and utensils required for meal times and deliver them to the classrooms.
· Assist with the serving of meals to children and clear pots and waste back to the kitchen afterwards.
Food safety, storage and control.
· Keep fridges, freezers, shelves and store cupboards cleaned and tidy so that food stuff is properly stored and easily accessible when required.
· Together with the cook, rotate food stocks and keep a check on 'use by dates'.
· Check that food stock is suitably stored according to recommendations in the kitchen fridge, freezers, cupboards and shelves.
· Be aware of and put into practice all current advice and legislation regarding food safety.
· Check that the temperatures of fridges and freezers are suitable for fresh and frozen food storage and a daily record of temperatures is kept.
· Ensure that all waste food is disposed of daily in an appropriate manner according to company policy.
· Assist with the checking of deliveries of food stocks and ensure that all food delivered is correctly stored.

* Sheffield S6 4ED: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (preferred)
Experience:
* Catering: 1 year (preferred)
* Cooking: 1 year (preferred)
* Kitchen experience: 1 year (preferred)
