Job Description
Are you an expert in Climate and Sustainability, with a passion for driving meaningful change through influencing decision-making at senior levels? AXA UK is seeking an Environment & Sustainability Manager to deliver our Climate & ESG strategy across the UK Property, Procurement & Operations (PP&O) function. You’ll lead the implementation and management of initiatives aimed at improving the environmental performance of the UK Property estate, General Expenses (GenEx), IT Expenses supply chain, and wider operational activities. You’ll collaborate effectively with Group and other AXA entities to roll out ‘best practice’ methodology, supporting AXA’s ambitious Climate targets.
At AXA, we promote flexible working, allowing our staff to balance home and office work. You will work at least 40% of your week away from home, primarily from September 2025, in offices located in Bristol, Bolton, Ipswich, or Manchester, or through client visits and industry events. Flexible arrangements can be discussed with Talent Acquisition.
What you’ll be doing:
1. Implement PP&O Climate initiatives and oversee the submission of UK operational climate metrics to meet Group targets and regulatory requirements (e.g., CSRD, SECR), including obtaining CFO sign-off where necessary.
2. Serve as the primary contact for AXA UK on Climate & ESG matters impacting the PP&O function, liaising with Group, business teams (Finance, HR, IT), and external stakeholders.
3. Deliver action-oriented presentations, build meaningful relationships, and maintain market-leading knowledge in Climate & ESG.
4. Manage the Sustainable Procurement Analyst (direct report), facilitating their responsibilities such as reducing Scope 3.1 emissions, increasing inclusive and diverse third-party spend, and supporting their development through performance management and coaching.
5. Manage utilities procurement (gas, electricity) and maintain relationships with energy suppliers, consultants, and brokers.
6. Collaborate with the Data & Reporting team to maintain a database of operational climate metrics to support reporting and environmental initiatives aimed at reducing AXA UK’s carbon footprint.
What you’ll bring:
* A relevant degree (or equivalent) in Environmental Management, Climate & ESG (UK undergraduate or similar).
* Membership of the Institute of Environmental Management (IEMA); Lead Auditor for ISO 14001 is desirable but not essential.
* Strong communication and presentation skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to influence senior stakeholders assertively.
* Good networking skills to engage stakeholders, suppliers, and external parties such as energy brokers.
* Strong understanding of relevant legislation, including CSRD reporting, ESOS audits, and action plans.
* Ability to analyze data and derive insights from Climate & ESG databases.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Excel, Word); experience with PowerBI is advantageous.
* Experience in Property & Operations processes, driving transformational change, and managing ambiguity effectively.
Applicants must be eligible and authorized to work in the UK.
What we offer:
* Competitive salary up to £55,000, dependent on experience
* Annual performance-based bonus
* Contributory pension scheme (up to 12% employer contributions)
* Life Assurance (up to 10x salary)
