Senior Healthcare Support Worker, Paediatrics (Ash Ward)

St Peter's Hospital in Chertsey, Surrey is recruiting for a Senior Health Care Support Worker on the inpatient Paediatric Ward.

The post is full time and shifts include long days, nights, weekends, and public holidays.

We are looking for motivated, enthusiastic and compassionate health care support workers to join our team who will be committed to the delivery of high quality care. You will need to have a mature approach to your work and have the ability to communicate and work effectively with children of all ages and their families. You will be working within a multidisciplinary team to provide support to the children and families, ideally you will have previous experience working with children and /or previous experience in a health care setting.

Candidates applying for this post must demonstrate the following essential criteria:

* Level 3 qualification such as A levels, BTEC or NVQ
* Experience working with children

Successful candidates must also have good communication skills, competent IT skills, and have a kind and caring nature.

The Trust offers training, including a three-week induction programme and further development opportunities. If you haven't already completed the Care Certificate you will be required to achieve this within the first six months with training and support.

Main duties of the job

Our Healthcare Support Workers are at the heart of providing direct patient centred care, supporting the Registered Nurses and Nursing Associates as well as the wider Multi‑Disciplinary Teams.

The role is varied, equally challenging and rewarding, where you will have the opportunity to really make a difference to the experience of our patients. The role includes:

* Providing direct patient care including meeting hygiene, continence, nutrition, pressure area care and mobility needs
* Taking and recording patients' vital signs, identifying and escalating changes to a patient's condition
* Providing one‑to‑one observation for patients who present a high risk of harm and vulnerable patients
* Escorting patients to different departments such as x‑ray
* Keeping the department and equipment clean, tidy, and restocking equipment
* Training and supporting new and junior team members

Job responsibilities

Working as a Senior Healthcare Support Worker will involve carrying out assigned tasks involved with direct patient care whilst maintaining the privacy and dignity of patients. This will be whilst demonstrating excellent care, compassion and communication, and in support of and supervised by a Registered Nurse or Nursing Associate, incorporating:

* Continence Management
* Undertaking and recording of Vital Signs
* Moving & Handling of patients to support independence
* Infection Prevention and Control
* Safeguarding of adults and children.

Person Specification


Qualifications

* Level 2 English and Math
* Care Certificate in Acute Care - achieved within the NHS or willing to achieve in first six months


Experience

* Previous experience working with children
* Working as part of a team
* Previous experience training and supporting new staff
* Previous experience working with children in a health care setting


Knowledge

* Trust vision, values and behaviours & strategic objectives
* Understanding of the role of Healthcare Support worker in the hospital setting


Skills

* Effective communication
* Required IT skills
* Caring and compassionate
* Empathy and understanding
* Ability to provide excellent patient centred care


Other Requirements

* Able to demonstrate that you are honest, reliable and trustworthy
* Treat patients, visitors and colleagues with respect
* Ability to be flexible to meet the needs of the patients, the team, the service and the Trust. This could include shift work during a 7-day working pattern
* Residing in the UK with a valid right to work documentation to work in the UK
