Junior Costs Negotiator (Clinical Negligence)

Description
To assess and settle claims for costs in Clinical Negligence claims and handle all procedural aspects up to agreement or assessment. This is an entry-level role involving file handling.
Managing own caseload of end-of-life payables.
Key Accountabilities
1. Drafting documents:
o Chronology
o Costs Strategy Document
o Points of Dispute
o Interlocutory applications (basic)
o Part 18 requests
o Consent orders
2. Conducting evidential reviews and assessments:
o Review of files and preparation of chronologies
o Assessing costs claims and setting strategies/reserves
o Assessing replies
o Reviewing incoming disclosures and documentary evidence
o Referral for supervision
o Assessing outcome of PA
3. Reporting:
o Drafting advice on NDA files to clients
o Preparing outcome reports post-case conclusion
o Preparing non-strategic updates to clients
4. Settlement Negotiations:
o Assessing Part 36 offers and other settlement proposals
o Negotiating with third parties
o Completing MI, payment requests, and outcome reports to clients
5. Ensuring compliance with SRA Standards & Regulations
Working Hours
35 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 9am - 5pm, with 1 unpaid hour for lunch. The primary location for this role is Parklands, Bolton.
Experience, Skills, and Qualifications
Essential Skills and Attributes
* English & Maths GCSE grade A to C/Level 5 or equivalent
* IT literate (Microsoft Office)
* Organisational skills, especially prioritising and multitasking
* Interpersonal and oral communication skills
* Experience in costs negotiation and strategy setting
* Customer service skills
* Teamwork and independent working abilities
* Initiative and attention to detail
* Drafting legal documents, including PODs and applications
* Understanding of client needs and litigation processes
* Proficient with case management systems
Desirable
* Legal office experience
* Use of case management systems
* Degree or equivalent qualification/experience
