Highly Specialised Paediatric Occupational Therapist

We have an exciting opportunity for a successful candidate to join Children's Therapies at Barts Health NHS Trust. This is a 9 month fixed term contract in the neonatal, paediatric intensive care and general paediatric wards at Royal London Hospital. The exact split can be flexible depending on the most suitable candidate.

You will be integrated within the paediatric and neonatal occupational therapy team, alongside the wider AHP network.Our well established and friendly teams offer care that is contemporary, personalized, occupational performance driven, and outcome focused.

The post holder will provide high quality assessment and intervention for neonatal and paediatric populations as part of the Occupational Therapy service and the wider Allied Health Professional (AHP) teams.

In this role, the Occupational Therapist will be expected to supervise practice, audit clinical care, teach and support professional colleagues, and provide skilled professional leadership. They will be proactive in influencing practice and sharing knowledge.

The post offers opportunities for service development, research, education, and teaching. We are committed to CPD and will work with you to further develop your skills and experience. The department provides excellent in service training and supervision, and you will get the opportunity to support our Band 6 staff as well as students.


Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide high quality assessment, treatment and advice to identified patients on the Neonatal (NNU), the Paediatric Critical Care Unit (PCCU) and the general paediatric wards at The Royal London Hospital. This is a fixed-term contract.

The post holder will join an integrated team on the NNU working alongside highly specialist neonatal Allied Health Professionals (AHPs), nursing and medical teams. They will also provide expert assessment and intervention to babies, children and adolescents on the PICU and general paediatric wards. They will be expected to supervise practice, audit their clinical care, teach and support professional colleagues and provide skilled professional leadership. They will work closely with parents/carers, AHP's, nursing and medical staff, and the community teams.

Person Specification


Qualifications

* Degree/Equivalent in Occupational Therapy
* HCPC registration


Experience

* Post graduate experience in the field of paediatrics
* Clinical experience within the NHS
* Presentation / teaching skills to the MDT
* Experience of supervising junior staff
* Previous experience working in an MDT
* Previous experience in neonatal and acute paediatric wards
* Experience in service evaluation and service development
* Experience working with children with long-term ventilation needs


Knowledge

* Evidence of continuing professional development and attendance at relevant courses
* Knowledge and understanding of current NHS priorities, pressures and strategic developments
* Evidence based practice in the occupational therapy role in neonatal services and early intervention
* RCOT Member
* Member of relevant specialist sections
* Evidence of relevant Postgraduate education
* Knowledge of relevant standardized assessments for the population
