Athena Racing are expanding our technical team with the goal of winning the America's Cup, the oldest international competition still contested in any sport. We are building an agile, creative and collaborative team to compete and win at the pinnacle of the sport of sailing. We are growing our structural engineering team. This is an opportunity to be part of an exclusive team working on design and optimisation of high-performance structures at the cutting edge of yacht design. You will be working with world-leading experts to help design and build a yacht capable of winning the Americas Cup.
Responsibilities
* Design and optimise yacht structural components in FRP composites and metal.
* Collaborate with the engineering, design and performance teams to develop and refine structural concepts.
* Contribute to the build, fit out and structural testing of the structures with the design and build teams.
* Assist with monitoring the structural performance of the yacht during sailing.
* Work with the design and shore team to maintain and optimise structures.
* Help develop tools and techniques for the structural engineering team.
Required skills/experience
* Bachelors degree or equivalent in Engineering, Material Science or related subject.
* Minimum 2 years experience of design and optimisation of FRP composites and / or metal structures.
* Able to work in a collaborative team environment
* Experience of structural analysis using hand calculations, design spreadsheets and finite element analysis.
* Proven ability to deliver results within challenging timelines whilst maintaining a high level of attention to detail.
* Ability to thrive in a high-performance, fast-paced America's Cup environment.
Desired skills/experience
* Experience in yacht structures.
* Experience in materials testing of composite and metals.
* Experience in optimisation and non-linear analysis.
* Experience with Hyperworks and 3dX.
* Experience with data analysis and programming in Python.
