Database Administrator - SQL
We have a blended work to your diary approach where we flex where, when and how we work, with attendance at our hub spaces 1 or 2 times a month – as team meetings and client need requires.
This role is part of the maturing of our IT Organisation, adding specialisation and technical knowledge into the Applications and Development team to help us support our IT project portfolio and current technologies. You will be working with a Database Administrator and various IT/development teams to ensure that the Microsoft SQL Server database estate is maintained and developed in line with our SQL Roadmap.
What you will be doing:
* Monitor performance of database systems resources and query throughput.
* Develop operational SQL scripts in support of BAU activities.
* Support the Infrastructure and Service Desk teams with diagnosing issues that may be associated with SQL server.
* Monitor and maintain database maintenance plans for backups, index rebuild/defragment, and database statistics.
* Monitoring system performance, automating routine tasks, and improving efficiency.
* Maintain database documentation as required.
* Maintain and administer database security access.
* Perform database Ad-hoc backups and restores.
* Trouble shoot and resolve database connectivity issues.
* Follow Change Management processes to implement database configuration changes.
* Follow Problem Management processes to troubleshoot and resolve recurring issues.
* Proactively monitor and respond to MSSQL database Alerts.
* Providing operational support for SQL Server databases, ensuring high availability and performance.
* Working closely with the 2nd & 3rd Line support teams, troubleshooting database and infrastructure-related issues.
* Assisting in database maintenance, security, backups, and disaster recovery planning.
* Supporting database integrations for new services, working alongside project engineers.
* Engaging in incident resolution and problem management at a 3rd line support level.
* Assist with the creation, deployment and maintenance of databases in multiple environments.
* Provide clear and timely communications (verbal and written) to colleagues and internal customers.
* Assist in achieving agreed service standards by maintaining database services to the required operational levels.
* Ensure that processes and standards are adhered to accurately to ensure that the expected levels of service quality and performance are maintained.
What you will need:
Combined with a demonstrable track record of successfully working within the Microsoft SQL Server technology stack, you will need to have the following previous experience:
* 3 years’ experience as a database administrator in SQL Server environment
* 3 years’ experience in Transact SQL, SSIS package development.
* 1 years’ experience working in Azure DevOps.
* 2 year of SQL Server database development/programming.
* Administering SQL Server 2012 (and later) databases.
* Configuration and maintenance of Availability Groups in SQL Server.
* Experience of utilising monitoring & diagnostic tools.
* Working with Windows server, including Active Directory and disk configurations.
* Hands on experience of working within cloud services such as Azure.
* Experience of Disaster Recovery planning and implementation.
* Bachelor's Degree (BS/BA) or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience with the following would be beneficial:
* MS Logic and Power Apps.
* Analytics: Analysis Services. Data Lake Analytic. Data Catalog
* The ability to produce high quality technical material, and to identify and develop opportunities to provide business benefit.
* Strong operational transformation experience with an analytical skillset to assess, identify and exploit opportunities.
* Excellent organisation and the ability to prioritise and carry out multiple tasks.
* Strong problem-solving abilities with the ability to think ahead and anticipate problems, issues, and solutions.
* The ability to build good relationships with stakeholders and colleagues.
