Interim Housing Enforcement Officer
Location: Whitehaven (covering South Cumberland)
Salary/Rate: £42,000 per annum
Hours: 4 days / 30 hours per week
Working Pattern: Hybrid (Minimum 2 days on-site/field-based per week)
Start Date: ASAP
About the Role
Are you an experienced Housing Enforcement Officer looking for your next challenge in beautiful South Cumberland?
We are seeking a skilled professional to hit the ground running due to an internal departure. Based out of our Whitehaven office, you will play a critical role in ensuring housing standards are met across the region. Because we are concurrently recruiting for a permanent replacement, this role offers an immediate start with a high potential for a temp-to-perm transition if desired.
Key Responsibilities
* Conducting thorough HHSRS inspections across private sector housing.
* Managing HMO licensing applications, compliance, and inspections.
* Issuing formal enforcement notices and progressing subsequent legal actions.
* Handling enforcement escalations, including civil penalties and prosecutions where necessary.
What We Are Looking For
* Proven experience working as a Housing Enforcement / Environmental Health Officer within a local authority.
* Deep technical knowledge of HHSRS framework and HMO legislation.
* Confidence in issuing notices and managing the legalities of non-compliance.
* A valid driver's license and access to a vehicle for on-site inspections.
