A Globally Known Tier 1 Bank are looking for a Sustainability IT Lead on a contractual basis until the end of 2026 with the potential of being extended into the new year. This will be an Inside IR35 contract and will act as Hybrid working with 3 days required in their Sheffield based Office
The Role
You will act as an infrastructure and platform expert, engaging with cloud engineers, infrastructure architects, data architects, and platform teams to shape solutions that deliver short, medium, and long‑term value.
While sustainability is not the primary driver of the role, it is an important dimension. You’ll help embed sustainability considerations into infrastructure processes and technology decisions, contributing to more efficient, measurable, and responsible platforms over time.
This is a hands‑on, consultative role that requires someone comfortable operating in large‑scale, complex environments and speaking confidently in technical language.
Key Responsibilities
* Serve as a trusted Infrastructure SME, advising platform, cloud, and data teams on architectural decisions.
* Work across on‑premise and cloud environments, with particular strength in large‑scale infrastructure design.
* Data centre layouts and server technologies
* Networking and storage solutions
* Observability and monitoring tools
* Partner with data and analytics teams to understand how infrastructure enables effective data usage.
* Support the embedding of sustainability considerations into infrastructure processes, balancing practicality with longer‑term strategy.
* Translate complex technical concepts into clear guidance for technical stakeholders.
* Contribute to the evolution of standards, methodologies, and reusable assets across multiple programmes and projects.
What We’re Looking For
* Strong background as an Infrastructure, Platform, or Cloud SME.
* Proven experience working in large, complex technology environments (not necessarily financial services).
* Deep architectural understanding of infrastructure, including cloud and hybrid platforms.
* Comfortable working with and influencing architects, engineers, and senior technologists.
* Experience with monitoring, observability, and performance tooling.
* Interest in, or ability to speak credibly about, sustainability in technology, even if it hasn’t been a primary focus previously.
* Pragmatic mindset — focused on delivering tangible outcomes rather than theoretical models.
