Sutherland House School is a non-maintained special school for autistic children and young people aged 3-19. The school is in the heart of the Creative Quarter in the City Centre located near Sneinton Avenue market area.
At Sutherland House school Positive Behaviour Support and Person-Centred approaches are of paramount importance and you will be able to contribute to the continued strategic and operational development of this. We offer small Class groups, high staffing ratios and excellent opportunities for training and continued professional development.
As a member of the school leadership team, you will play a critical role in the translation of its vision into clear objectives that promote and sustain measurable school development; ensuring that the school continuously improves and is aspirational for our students.
You will have the opportunity to work in collaboration with the School Governing Body, Board of Trustees and Autism East Midlands’ Senior Management Team.
You will have responsibility for the defined area of the school which will be decided following appointment. You will also receive designated safeguarding lead training to act as a deputy safeguarding lead alongside the designated safeguarding lead.
Previous experience with autistic children and young people or teaching in an additional needs environment at any age is desirable but full training and support will be given. We also welcome applications from colleagues who have experience of teaching core subjects.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. You will support the Head Teacher in the management of an organisational structure which reflect the school’s values, and which enables management systems, structures and processes to work effectively in line with statutory and regulatory requirements.
2. You will ensure that the school and its resources are organised and managed to provide an efficient, effective and safe learning environment.
3. You will support the recruitment, induction and retention of new staff supporting the deployment of staff appropriately in conjunction with HR.

5. school ethos that enables everyone to work collaboratively, share knowledge and understanding, celebrate success and accept responsibility for outcomes.
6. You will support the Head Teacher in the rigorous review and evaluation through performance management of a defined cohort of teaching staff.
7. You will ensure absence and HR processes are carried out in line with policy across the school and line manage a team of school staff dependent on area of responsibility.
