Role Overview
Working in an Agile delivery squad, you will own the full product lifecycle from design to deployment in a DevOps environment. As a Cloud Engineer you will design, build and operate scalable, secure cloud infrastructure on AWS and/or Azure to support application teams. Your work will drive services that process millions of transactions across the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency platform.
Responsibilities
* Develop and maintain modular, secure code that meets user needs.
* Apply best‑practice guidelines and continuously improve design, architecture and coding standards.
* Write clean, well‑tested, and secure code.
* Co‑operate with and mentor junior colleagues.
* Operate and monitor the services you build, identifying and resolving production issues.
* Optionally participate in a 24/7 on‑call rota (17:00–07:00 Monday–Friday, all days over weekends). An on‑call allowance of up to £4,500 is paid monthly.
Qualifications
* Hands‑on experience with public cloud platforms, preferably AWS and/or Azure.
* Comfortable using modern CI/CD tooling and applying a DevOps mindset.
* Proven experience with Infrastructure‑as‑Code using CloudFormation and Terraform.
* Understanding of troubleshooting, problem resolution and distributed systems.
* Experience with container orchestration (EKS, Kubernetes) and serverless (AWS Lambda) is highly desirable.
* Strong communication skills, teamwork and a passion for delivering high‑quality services at scale.
