Overview
An opportunity has arisen for an experienced manager to join the Medicine and Emergency Care (MEC) senior management team as a deputy directorate manager. The post is to work with the Medicine and Older People directorate, which includes the Stroke and Frailty subspecialisms. The deputy directorate manager acts for the directorate manager in their absence, oversees cross-cover arrangements, and ensures continuity of management across the directorate.
You will be accountable for delivering performance targets, financial budget compliance, and quality and safety standards, including national audits, within your directorate. As part of the MEC management team you will work collaboratively with colleagues inside and external to the division to deliver Trust objectives. The role is onsite at Royal Blackburn Hospital with occasional flexibility to other Trust sites as required.
Responsibilities
* Act as deputy to an assigned directorate manager and provide cover in their absence, coordinating leave to ensure continuity.
* Deliver performance targets, manage budget compliance, and uphold quality and safety standards, including national audits.
* Lead and work with medical, nursing, and allied health professional colleagues to achieve the best patient outcomes.
* Collaborate across divisions to support the MEC strategy and Trust objectives.
* Support daily safety and performance across a large inpatient bed base (currently 128 beds), with particular focus on safe medical staffing as relevant to the Medicine for Older People assignment.
* Lead or support activities to achieve good outcomes in national stroke audits and related improvement work.
Qualifications
* Educated to degree level or evidence of equivalent study or experiential learning.
* Experience as a Deputy Directorate Manager or equivalent operational management experience.
* Experience of managing medical staff.
* Knowledge of clinical pathways and regulatory framework, with specific knowledge to Medicine for Older People and national stroke audit.
