Job Overview
We are looking for a motivated debt recovery specialist to analyse debt data to achieve better recovery outcomes for the Council.
Responsibilities
* Take debt data from the corporate system and undertake a systematic review of all outstanding sundry debt profile by age, value, and complexity of recovery.
* Develop trend analysis considering fluctuations to provide a clear analysis of the value of outstanding debt.
* Prepare monthly reports detailing activity and whether debt per account is increasing or decreasing.
* Engage with residents to understand why debt has occurred and support them in making short‑term payment arrangements.
* Collaborate with colleagues across the Council to identify whether residents are missing out on welfare benefits or allowances.
* Visit residents in their own home to discuss repayment arrangements, where required.
* Work with departments to determine the complexity of recovery when businesses are involved and decide whether referral to external solicitors is appropriate.
* Target high value debt and highlight any debt that is a cause for concern; act upon flags suggesting financial difficulty such as direct debit rejections or invoices not paid within the standard timescale.
* Ensure correspondence and interaction with residents is comprehensively recorded and that correspondence is issued in a timely manner to the correct address.
Working Conditions
This role is suitable as a job share opportunity and offers hybrid working arrangements. Working arrangements are determined based on role requirements and will be discussed with you during the recruitment process. Your contractual location will be the designated council office for your team.
Requirements
Postholder must undertake a basic Criminal Record check (unspent convictions only) via the Disclosure and Barring Service.
