Diabetes Maternity Support Worker

As we continue to expand and develop our maternity services, we have an exciting opportunity for a motivated and passionate Maternity Support Worker to join our diabetes in pregnancy team.

We are looking for a confident and compassionate maternity support worker to work alongside our Diabetes Midwives and within our multi-disciplinary team to provide high-quality, safe, and individualised care throughout the antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal periods - making a real difference to families and outcomes.


Main duties of the job

The Diabetes Maternity Support Worker will facilitate and support the delivery of safe, compassionate, person-centred care to individuals with diabetes in pregnancy.

Working alongside the multidisciplinary diabetes team, the post holder will provide

education, monitoring, and lifestyle advice to patients, ensuring effective diabetes management. They will also contribute to the improvement of patient outcomes through support, guidance, and administrative duties.

In this role you will be expected to plan and prioritise your workload, implement evidence-based care, use relevant guidance, protocols, and policies (local and national), and work within the team to contribute to care planning and review.

Person Specification


Qualifications

* GCSE Maths and English grades A-C/4-9, Functional Skills Level 2
* NVQ Level 3/Diploma in health-related subject/Care Certificate


Experience

* Relevant previous experience within maternity or a similar healthcare/NHS setting
* Experience of providing healthcare advice or promoting healthy lifestyle advice to patients or members of the public.
* Experience of providing Diabetes support.
* Experience of developing and delivering successful health promotion interventions.


Skills

* Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and good listening skills.
* Good standard of written and spoken English.
* Able to work independently under guidance, and within multidisciplinary team.
* IT skills appropriate to role; experience of and ability to use databases/electronic clinical record systems.
* Good organisational skills and the ability to prioritise workload and coordinate own schedule without direct supervision


Knowledge

* Understand the importance of the promotion of health and wellbeing
* Awareness of/understanding the Saving babies Lives care bundle, in particular element 6.
* Understanding of Basic anatomy & physiology, Safeguarding, Confidentiality, Trust guidelines and policies And application to practice.


Other

* Adaptable and flexible approach to work
* Understands personal and professional limits, when to escalate appropriately.
