Research Assistant/Associate in Nanotechnology and Device Manufacturing (Fixed Term)
We are recruiting a Research Assistant/Associate in the Department of Engineering at the University of Cambridge to work on functionalisation of nanotechnology and device manufacturing. The position is fixed‑term for an initial period of 8 months, funded at the Research Associate level for PhD holders and at Research Assistant level for candidates who have not yet received their PhD.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
* Device fabrication (photolithography, etching, thin‑film deposition, etc.) and characterisation.
* Functionalisation of devices, optimisation of morphologies, battery testing and research on nanotechnology and manufacturing.
* Writing progress reports to fulfil grant requirements and contributing to publications within the University’s Energy Group.
* Collaborating with members of the Energy Group and other research teams.
* Organising and attending project‑relevant meetings with academic and industrial participants.
* Contributing to the preparation of proposals and applications for external funding, e.g., the European Commission and UK Research and Innovation (UKRI).
Required Skills, Qualifications and Experience
* Postgraduate degree at Master’s level or above in Chemistry, Physics, Electrical, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering.
* Experience in clean‑room, device fabrication and characterisation.
* Knowledge of batteries, manufacturing processes and carbon‑based materials.
* Ability to conduct research independently and with minimal supervision.
Additional expectations:
* Communicate technical content across specialist and non‑specialist audiences.
* Structure and present technical project reports.
* Experience in analysing measurement data; research experience, e.g., via a dissertation thesis, in device fabrication.
