The job itself

A compassionate and understanding Personal Assistant is required to support a young individual who enjoys being active, social and involved in a variety of community‑based activities during school holidays. This person has a great sense of humour, enjoys spending time with others, and thrives when supported by someone who is happy to join in with engaging, hands‑on activities.

The individual communicates in non‑verbal ways, responds well to clear guidance, and uses familiar cues to express needs or preferences. They understand instructions, although they may not always follow them, and sometimes use specific words to communicate frustration. They require close supervision at all times due to limited awareness of danger and have some personal care needs that the Personal Assistant will be expected to support with.

They enjoy a wide range of activities, including water‑based play, baking, painting, crafting and shopping. The ideal candidate will be someone who is confident taking part in these activities and able to provide social support in a positive and encouraging manner.

Hours:
8 hours per week during school holidays.

About the Role

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

1. Encouraging engagement in meaningful activities.
2. Supporting the development of social skills.
3. Providing reassurance, structure and emotional support.
4. Ensuring safety at all times, both at home and in the community.
5. Helping the individual work towards personal goals and aspirations.
6. Attending or transporting the individual to activities and appointments.
7. Promoting social interaction, inclusion and enjoyment.

About the Candidate

The suitable candidate must:

8. Be conscientious and committed to providing the support required.
9. Be patient, caring and understanding.
10. Be able to build a positive and encouraging relationship.
11. Be flexible to meet the needs of the family.
12. Have experience of supporting a child or young person with additional needs.
13. Be fun, engaging and confident participating in a range of creative and active tasks.
14. Be able to provide consistent supervision to ensure safety in all environments.

DBS/Reference checks will be required for this post - Cost to be met by the local authority.
