Band 7 Clinical Nurse Specialist – Diabetes

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a nurse to join our Diabetes Team as a part‑time, permanent Band 7 Clinical Nurse Specialist in Diabetes. This post will be based at Heartlands Hospital, part of University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust, and may require occasional cross‑site work and visits to patients at home.
Main duties of the job
* Deliver excellent diabetes care to inpatients and outpatients, working autonomously and independently as a prescriber.
* Lead on a diabetes speciality and develop clinical education and training programmes for the multidisciplinary team, patients, families and carers.
* Act as a specialist resource, providing advice on diabetes care and supporting the postholder to develop skills and competence.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Registered Adult / Child Nurse on the NMC Register (field dependent upon role).
* Evidence of post‑registration CPD or a post‑registration qualification in a relevant area of speciality or professional knowledge.
* Recognised mentorship course.
* Working towards or holding an MSc/Master's qualification.
* Working towards or holding an advanced health assessment module where applicable.
* Non‑medical prescriber status or willingness to undertake where applicable.
Experience
* Evidence and ability to revalidate as required by the NMC.
* Significant years of post‑registration experience as a Clinical Nurse Specialist at B6 or above.
* Experience of working autonomously at a specialist level.
* Evidence of achievements and career development in current post and ongoing professional development.
* Demonstrated expert knowledge underpinned by theory and CPD relevant to speciality.
* Experience developing educational programmes, teaching, assessing and supervising others.
* Experience working in a multidisciplinary and cross‑agency environment.
* Experience in patient service user advocacy.
* Ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate specialist care and give advice to patients, relatives and care staff.
* Awareness of current NHS policy context relating to the speciality.
* Understanding of safeguarding principles.
* Knowledge of corporate and clinical governance.
* Experience delivering change management as a facilitator.
* Experience in service development and awareness of relevant research.
