Band 6 Safeguarding Practitioner
Professionally accountable to the Head of Safeguarding, the post holder will support the Safeguarding team to protect adults, young people and children. The post holder will work as part of a dynamic multi‑agency integrated team assessing notifications, managing referrals and supporting a duty service regarding adults, young people and children.
Key Responsibilities
* Work with a range of key professionals to contribute to the ongoing development and delivery of services designed to safeguard adults and children from harm and promote their welfare through safeguarding processes.
* Demonstrate an understanding of the issues relating to identification, assessment, planning, intervention and evaluation of safeguarding concerns.
* Support the MASH processes, including searching for and collating health information from a range of NHS providers and sources.
* Record, interpret and present health information and issues that can impact on risk or needs assessment from a range of health perspectives. This may involve disclosing relevant information ensuring it is processed fairly, proportionately, and legally.
* Disseminate and communicate decisions and appropriate health information to relevant health professionals, including the Safeguarding Nurse and/or Doctor, and share best practice.
* Promote appropriate and effective communication.
* Attend strategy meetings on behalf of other health professionals as necessary.
* Explain complex safeguarding information, with sound rationale, to a wide range of professionals, articulating a range of options and advising on the most appropriate approach.
* Support Safeguarding Lead Nurses in specific working groups to achieve targets and objectives relating to safeguarding activity.
* Ensure those impacted by safeguarding concerns and their carers/representatives (where relevant) are involved in decisions affecting care and wellbeing.
* Role model standards of care and conduct through own practice within the Safeguarding role.
* Practice in accordance with the professional, ethical and legal codes of the Nursing and Midwifery Council, Trust’s protocol and guidelines.
* Advise and inform the Head of Safeguarding regarding all matters of safeguarding as appropriate.
* Work as a safeguarding champion with Divisional Management teams to deliver on the Division and organisational objectives.
* Undertake other duties commensurate with this grade of post in agreement with the relevant line manager.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Registered Nurse or allied health professional (AHP).
* Post‑registration experience and personal development.
* Evidence of ongoing training and relevant courses in safeguarding.
Experience
* Experience managing safeguarding concerns.
* Critical thinking, reflection and analysis.
* Excellent communication and liaison skills, including written skills which are accurate and concise.
* Ability to communicate and liaise effectively with professionals across all relevant agencies at all levels.
Knowledge
* Knowledge of national safeguarding policies, guidelines and recommendations.
* Knowledge of patterns of abuse and neglect.
* Ability to develop the service when required.
* Ability to manage change within the NHS environment.
* Ability to plan and prioritise own workload and manage time effectively.
* Basic IT skills.
* Knowledge and application of NMC Code of Conduct or AHP codes of practice.
* Problem‑solving safeguarding and practice issues.

DBS Costs
All new employees starting work will be charged for the cost of their DBS check if required. The cost will be deducted from the salary in three payments over a three‑month period once employment starts.
